VIENNA, May 11, 2008 (AFP) - The Austrian national football team flew Sunday to Sardinia for a six-day training camp, ahead of the European football championship at home in June.

The 20 players who made the trip will be fighting for a place in Josef Hickersberger's final 23-men squad.

But they still face competition from the so-called "legionnaire" players, who are finishing their seasons with foreign football clubs.

Hickersberger said he would not make any final squad decisions in Sardinia.

Austria and Switzerland co-host the European championships from June 7-29.
