ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, May 17, 2009 (AFP) - Dutch first division side SC Heerenveen claimed their maiden Dutch Cup victory after a thrilling final with FC Twente on Sunday that was forced to a penalty shoot-out.

After the match finished 1-1 the teams could not be separated after 30 minutes of extra-time, by which point Youssouf Hersi's 117th minute goal for Twente had levelled the scores to 2-2 after Bonaventure Kalou's effort three minutes earlier.

The match went to a penalty shoot-out with SC Heerenveen beating former England manager Steve McLaren's side 5-4.

Heerenveen, who are based in Friesland, were beaten Cup finalists in 1993 and 1997.
