MEXICO CITY, Feb 8, 2010 (AFP) - A Mexican judge has ordered three policemen detained while investigators probe the shooting of Paraguay World Cup star Salvador Cabanas, the ministry of public affairs said Sunday.

Cabanas was shot in the head in the toilet of a Mexico City bar last month and is recovering after undergoing emergency surgery.

Closed-circuit images from the bar allegedly show the three policemen escorting the main suspect of the shooting into the building. They were3 ordered detained for 30 days, a spokesman for the ministry said.

Authorities are looking for the main suspect, identified as Jose Jorge Balderas Garza, nicknamed "El JJ", and another man known only by the nickname "El Contador."

The 29-year-old striker Cabanas plays his club football with Club America in the Mexican league.

Doctors say that he is recovering progressively and is now able to talk and to leave his hospital bed.

Paraguayan surgeon Celso Frete said last week there was a chance the player might yet be able to play in the World Cup in South Africa in June-July.
