Bridges out of Jets' A-League playoff campaign

SYDNEY, Feb 15, 2010 (AFP) - English striker Michael Bridges will miss the Newcastle Jets' Australian A-League playoffs after tearing a muscle in training, the club said on Monday.

The former Leeds United forward underwent scans that revealed he had a torn one of the quadricep muscles in his right leg.

The injury for Bridges, who has scored six goals in 15 appearances this season, comes just ahead of the Jets' elimination playoff against Gold Coast United on Saturday, officials said.

The club said the star will not require surgery at this stage, but he faces a six-week recovery period.

It is a blow for the sixth-placed Jets, who have lost their last four A-League games and went down to the competition wooden spooners Adelaide United 2-1 in their final home match of the season last weekend.
