SYDNEY, Feb 20, 2010 (AFP) - Outsiders Newcastle Jets ousted Gold Coast United in a dramatic penalty shoot-out to keep alive in the Australian A-League's playoffs on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Ben Kennedy was Newcastle's hero with a one-handed save to deny Zenon Caravella's attempt as the Jets won 6-5 on penalties after it was scoreless after extra time.

The Jets will now face the winner of Sunday's other elimination playoff between Wellington Phoenix and Perth Glory in a fortnight.

It was a bitter end to the season for A-League newcomers Gold Coast, who were competition leaders for the early part of the season and finished third on the final standings behind Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory.
