Stay up to the minute with the Bundesliga as the action unfolds with WSN’s Livescore!

The infamous German Bundesliga gets underway this weekend which means its time to make some meaningless preseason predictions. To make things interesting, we are going to have a little in-house competition here at WSN amongst our staff to see who’s predictions prove to be most accurate. The staff members that will be participating in this little shin dig are Ryan and Filippo, both of whom are Shanghai locals, along with Kevin and myself (obvious favorite), who are of various Western descent. For each major European league (Premiership, Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1), we will predict which teams will finish in the top 5 and who will win the league’s domestic cup. The winner will receive sole ownership of the company. Not really. They’ll probably get a Tsingdao or something. Anyway, let’s get on with it.

Despite a chaotic transfer season throughout the continent of Europe, the Bundesliga managed to keep most of its core intact. Of course I am speaking mainly of star midfielder Franck Ribery of Bayern Munich. For some reason, people all over the web still feel compelled to gossip about a potential move for the French international even though Bayern has made it abundantly clear that they would not even consider an offer unless it was in the “Ronaldo-range”, which translates to around €80 million. However, Ribery remains and will of course play an integral part as Bayern looks for redemption from what was nothing short of a disappointing season by their standards.

Along with the retention of their scrappy Frenchman, Bayern signed striker Mario Gomez via Vfb Stuttgart who scored 35 goals in 44 appearances last season. The German international scored a brace in their first round DFB Pokal match against Neckarelz. Looks like he’s going to fit in nicely. Additionally, the club signed Danijel Pranjic from Heerenveen to help out in the back. ‘FC Hollywood’ is, as always, the preseason favorite and judging by their roster, its certainly deserving.

Last year’s wonder team Wolfsburg returns virtually the same squad that made a run to the Bundesliga title last season. They were able to improve an already impressive attacking fleet that features last seasons top two goalscorers Grafite and Edin Dzeko with the signing of former Inter Milan forward Obafemi Martins. However, the most important move they made this summer was signing an extension with Dzeko who was thought to be heading to AC Milan.

Werder Bremen absolutely fell off the map last year in the Bundesliga with a pitiful 10th place finish but still managed to make it to the finals of the UEFA Cup and win the DFB Pokal. I must say that is quite possibly the most bizarre thing I have ever heard of. Look for them to get their act together in league play next year.

Ok, enough of that. Here are WSN’s predicitions for the 2009-10 Bundesliga season:
