5 Burning Questions Heading Into This Weekend

Published by William | Filed under Football (aka soccer)

There are certainly some big ones this weekend and hopefully we will finally get some insight as to where this season is going to head. Here are 5 questions that which hopefully some light will be shed (I just realized that rhymed):

1.) Is Arsenal that good?

Despite hearing how bad they were all offseason, Arsenal has gotten off to a magnificent start and looks to win their fifth straight this weekend when they take on Manchester United. They have won their previous 4 matches by a margin of 15-3, which includes a 5-1 aggregate defeat of Celtic in their two-legged Champions League playoff and a 6-1 opening Premiership demolition of Everton. This is obviously their first true test of the season and they will get to really see where they are at Saturday when they travel to Old Trafford.

2.) Is Manchester United any good?

It still remains to be seen whether the defending Premiership champions are worthy of claiming their 4th straight league crown and we will probably have a better idea this weekend when the young Gunners come to town. They shocked everyone by dropping their second match to Burnley 1-0 away from home but bounced back with a dominating 5-0 thrashing at Wigan Athletic. If they drop this one at home, it wouldn’t surprise me if Sir Alex dips into that Ronaldo/Monopoly money he’s been sitting on all summer.

3.) Will Real Madrid lose a game?

Of course they will, but man they are going to be tough. I don’t understand why people aren’t absolutely blown away by the their recent acquisition of Xabi Alonso?? I mean, I do understand why after their prolific spending spree but really??? That’s the icing on the cake for me! It wraps up any concern I had heading into this season about whether or not Kaka and Ronaldo could coordinate together. But now, they have the ‘Maestro’ himself to run the show. Not to mention Benzema to clean up in front. Barcelona will surely give them a run for their money but in the end, that team is far too stacked.

4.) Who will prevail as the kings of Milan?

There is certainly a big one in Italy this weekend when Inter faces Milan. Many perceive AC as on their way out (including me) while they suffer from their financial woes. Inter, on the other hand, is expected to be in a two horse race with Juventus for the Scudetto, however after last weekend’s dud draw against recently promoted Bari, I’m not sure they are the best in their own city! If Ronaldinho and co. want to make a statement that they are still for real, now is their chance.

5.) How many Tsingtaos will I drink this weekend?

More than the common man should. Peace out homies.
