Robinho Arrives in Santos with Warm Welcome
Published by adam | Filed under Football (aka soccer), Miscellaneous

The Brazilian super star landed at Santos FC Stadium Vila Belmiro in a helicopter with the one and only Athlete of the Century Pelé. Can we still call Robinho a super star? Anyways, Pelé proceeded to boast the young talent around the stadium to thousands of celebrating spectators.
Robinho Lands in Santos, Literally

15,000 Santistas, or Santos fans, were on hand to welcome the hometown champion. Robinho does boast an excellent national and international track record with 2 Campeonato Brasileiros (Santos FC), (Brazilian Série A championships, which Santos had never won until the presence of Robinho), 2 La Liga titles and 1 Supercopa (Real Madrid), and 2 Confederations Cups and 1 Copa America (Brazil).
The Brazilian remains on a 6th month loan from Manchester City, but will look to extend his contract with Santos. Robinho quoted to reporters, “my goal is to stay a long time,” and even talked about a permanent move to the club. Robinho is concentrating more in the moment of the looming World Cup, where he must be match fit if he wants to play under Dunga. So, it is looking like Robinho is done with football abroad.
Of course, the striker was hailed as a hero upon returning to Santos. Will Robinho’s return spark a situation where players will be more likely to stay in Brazil, or come back to finish their careers much like (fat) Ronaldo? The Brazilian economy is definitely on the incline. With a better economy, clubs can generate more money and investments, thus the ability to offer bigger salaries. This move is big for not only Santos FC, but for the potential of future big names playing in the Brazilian Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.
