WSN’s Top La Liga Blogs

Published by William | Filed under Digital Media, La Liga

After doing a little web browsing the past day or two, I am utterly disappointed to report that there are almost NO well-written, well-maintained, independent, English written La Liga blogs out there. If there are, they are not properly indexed in the search engines or I am simply not looking in the right places. And furthermore, many of the ones that I did come across, they seem to have been given up on and are no longer regularly updated. It’s really surprising actually. People blog about anything on the internet from American blonde chicks who can’t get over the food in London to a bunch of nerds discussing Magic the Gathering (I apologize if you play Magic the Gathering…) yet there aren’t any good Valencia, Sevilla, or Atletico Madrid blogs?? Even for juggernauts Barcelona and Real Madrid, the picking is pretty scarce, all things considered. Anyways, I thought I’d show some love to the good folks out there who do take time out of their busy days to share their two cents with the world about the clubs (and league) in Spain they love most.

Real Madrid: Madrid Galcticos – Coined as the “Perception of a Candid Real Madrid Fan” and it is surely that. Author truly knows the game and Real Madrid. His tone can even be described as a bit cynical at time (see Why Guti Should Be Kicked Out of Real Madrid), which in my opinion, is how a true fan usually is and should be. It’s only natural to become critical of a team after watching them for so long and I respect the author’s honesty.

Barcelona: Barcelona Fans – This blog is written by a couple of expats living in Barcelona and frankly, I couldn’t think of anyone more suited than a foreigner living there to write this blog. You can’t help but adorn the colors of your city’s team and to hear someone who lives and follows them first hand, yet still with an outsider’s perspective makes for a truly interesting read.

Villarreal: VillarrealUSA – This blog is pretty much the opposite of Barcelona Fans. The author, I’m guessing, is of Spanish descent and is attempting to build a fanbase in the US. Must say I admire his optimism considering how football is not exactly the sport of choice in the States but still is fighting onward to make Villarreal known and hopes to eventually take some folks over there someday to see some games. The blog has actually gotten a decent amount of press in Spain and in other parts of Europe with some pretty notable media outlets. Check em out.

Valencia: Loco4LosChe – This blog was recommended by one of our commentees below and I must say, this is exactly what I was talking about!! This Valencia blog is written by an American named Kyle Coppess who after getting fed up with all the gossip reported by Goal.com, took it upon himself to provide an English Valencia News Site that concentrates on providing FACTUAL information regarding the club. Furthermore, he does it all for free! The content is really good and informative and like I said, there are no other Valencia sites out there like it. Definitely going in my favorites. Keep up the good work.

Other La Liga Blogs:

La Liga Talk – Probably the most well rounded, independent La Liga blog on the web. Part of the EPL Talk Network, founded by Christopher Harris out of good ol’ Lake Worth, Florida.

Spanishfootballsports.blogspot.com – Written by a former amateur footballer about all things Spanish football.

Like I said before, this is all I could find and if there are any you fine people know about and feel that I should, PLEEEEASE let me know so I can show them some love.

Sorry, but the biggest Real Madrid blog is undoubtedly RealMadridTalk. Practically nobody reads the Real Madrid blog mentioned here. As for good La liga blogs, there are plenty on OleOle.com and of course, there’s La liga Weekly and TheOffside. Really should’ve done your homework better on these blogs.

For Barcelona, the best blog I know and always recommend is http://www.barcelonafootballblog.com/.

You also seem to have never heard of Guillem Balague (probably because you are an EPL or Serie A fan or you didn’t do a lot of research) http://www.guillembalague.com/, his blog is the best La Liga blog out there. Better than La Liga Loca for me.

  6. William Says:

Oh lord, I didn’t mean to create such a stir!! Nothing against RealMadridTalk. I actually am quite fond of the site and your writing. I was just recognizing the “independent” blogs, or more specifically, the ones who do this for fun, not professionally. Keep up the good work mate!
