Now that the Premier league is winding down, games are beginning to mean more and have more excitement surrounding them. The free flowing gunners face off against Blackburn Rovers this Saturday and must win in order to keep their title hopes alive. Blackburn, who have been in poor form of late have to visit the Emirates and hope for a result to keep themselves out of regulation.
Can Arsenal win the title?
The Gunners need all 3 points in order to keep the pressure on Manchester United. Arsenal suffered a serious confidence blow as they were kicked out of the Champions League by Barcelona just after losing the League Cup final to no other than Birmingham City.
Arsenal, as we all know play a creative style of football that is enjoyable to watch, but they always seem to come up short in the must win games. Now with the title in their own hands, can they grind out the results in the fashion of their rivals Manchester United? With no other contests to worry about, the Gunners can give all their attention to winning the Premier league. If Arsenal wins the next 9 games including the highly anticipated clash against Manchester United on May 1st, then they will win the league. Whether or not their confidence can be restored however, is still in question.
Winning a trophy, especially the Premier League could boost a young Arsenal squad for years to come. With one trophy, perhaps a mental shift will begin to change within the Gunners squad, they will see themselves more as a big club, and more trophies will follow, but how long will we Wenger have to wait for the trophy? This season? Will he be forced to spend more in the transfer market this summer? We can only wait and see, but as of right now the title is in the Gunners hands.
Arsenal:
The Gunners have drawn their two previous matches. In their last league match they played West Bromwich Albion and were made to fight back after they went 2 goals down. Both Arshavin and van Persie snagged a goal, but nobody was able to find a winner.
Arshavin seems to have found his form again, which could be vital as Arsenal push for the title. Robert van Persie’s exact fitness is still unknown after suffering a thigh injury in the international friendlies, but reports suggest with some luck he could play this weekend. Wenger would most definitely be relieved if van Persie were cleared to play as the Dutchman has scored 11 times in just 16 appearances this season. Cesc Fabregas (hamstring) and Theo Walcott (ankle) are also both returning to fitness. Walcott, who has not played since February is now available, and could be seen in the next couple of games. Alexander Song has also recovered and is available for the match. Wilshire, the Arsenal prodigy, has been in great form for both Arsenal and England and is a player to keep your eye on. Jens Lehmann could be in goal this weekend after his recent signing of a short-term contract. Will be interesting to see how that pays out.
Blackburn:
The Rovers will be looking to end their straight run of 5 away defeats. With 8 games still to go in the Premier league, Blackburn cannot get complacent, as of now only 3 points separate them from the bottom of the league, and they are only one point above the relegation zone. In the last 5 games the Rovers have only bagged one point in a draw against Newcastle United. There is no news coming from the Blackburn camp about new injuries. There will be some pressure on Steve Kean’s men because of relegation, which could be used to his advantage.

Prediction:
In their last go around in August, Arsenal won 2-1. Wenger may or may not have his preferred squad due to injuries, but Arsenal still has enough quality in the squad to be fine. Both teams have been struggling lately and this game could potentially boost the end of both teams’ seasons. Blackburn will put up a fight, but it will be Arsenal to take this one home.
Pick:
Arsenal 3-1 Blackburn
