4/05 19:45 BST Real Madrid vs Tottenham Hotspurs – Odds | Stats
Tottenham travels to Santiago Bernabeu to face the might of Real Madrid in the first leg of the round of eight. Mourinho and company will try to keep their perfect home record in this season’s Champions League. Tottenham will look to make history and certainly have the talent to do so. The Hotspurs have picked up quite the fan base on their Champions League run while their attacking style is enjoyable to watch.
Real Madrid:
Real Madrid is perfect at home in this year’s Champions League, winning 4 while scoring 11 and conceding none. The Galacticos have won the big one 9 times but have not made it to the semi finals since 2003. Real however suffered a huge momentum killer when Sporting Gijon beat Real Madrid 1-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday. Sporting Not only ended Jose Mourinho’s nine-year, 150 match home unbeaten streak, but they also virtually ended Real’s chances of becoming La Liga Champions. Jose admitted after the match that Real’s chances of winning La Liga were near impossible. The good side of things is that Real can now focus on the Champions League and their upcoming home fixture.
Ronaldo and Benzema will likely remain on the bench while Higuain has only just returned from a lengthy injury. Di Maria, Alonso, Oezil, and Adebayor should be sufficient enough to see los Blancos through to the semis.
Tottenham:
Tottenham are no doubt the surprise of the tourney but are no longer under the radar. World class play from youngster Gareth Bale and playmaker Rafeal Van der Vaart have lifted the Hotspurs into the spotlight and into the round of 8. The North Londoners have ripped through much of their competition scoring 11 away goals in just five games. Aaron Lennon sits atop the list of assists at 5. Recent games tell a different story as Redknapp’s men have drawn their last three games 0-0 (against Wigan Athletic, West Ham and AC Milan).

Prediction:
The only previous encounter between the two sides was in the Uefa Cup quarter-finals in 1985 which ended in a scoreless draw. Madrid moved on after winning the first leg at White Hart Lane 1-0 due to an own goal deflection. Hopefully this will be an attacking filled match, but Mourinho will be well aware of Tottenham’s lethal counter attach and may very well play with a tighter lineup. Nevertheless, two consecutive home loses is unthinkable. Real win.
Pick:
Real Madrid 2 – 1 Tottenham
