The Phillies are almost overflowing with momentum after Game 2. They have outscored Arizona 15-3 over the first two games of the series and have now won six of the nine head-to-head games between these teams in 2023. As a result, Philadelphia is now two wins away from going to the World Series for the second straight year.
Here are bet365’s odds for Game 3 of the NLCS:

Arizona’s season appears to hinge on the right arm of rookie Brandon Pfaadt, who gets the start in Game 3. Pfaadt was masterful in his last outing, pitching 4.1 scoreless innings against the Dodgers, yielding just two hits while helping the Diamondbacks win the ALDS. However, he was also 3-9 with a 5.72 ERA during the regular season. Pfaadt also struggled in the Wild Card Round against Milwaukee, leaving after just 2.2 innings and giving up three runs on seven hits. He now has to find a way to slow down a Philadelphia lineup that’s averaging 5.8 runs per game during the postseason and has hit 19 home runs in eight playoff games.
Of course, the Diamondbacks also need their offense to come alive regardless of what they get from Pfaadt. Lefty Ranger Suarez will be tasked with keeping Arizona’s lineup under wraps in Game 3. Suarez delivered two quality outings against the Braves during the ALDS. While he only pitched 8.2 innings across those two starts, Suarez conceded just one run on four hits. The Phillies will also have a fresh and well-rested bullpen behind Suarez, so he shouldn’t feel a lot of pressure to pitch deep in Game 3.
Given Philadelphia’s momentum in this series and the fact that the D’Backs are sending a rookie to the mound, the Phillies are surely poised to win Game 3. They were an impressive 26-17 as road favorites during the regular season whereas Arizona was just 17-22 as a home underdog. At this point, the Phillies look close to unstoppable and have an excellent chance to keep it going in Game 3 on Thursday.
