This inter-state matchup promises to be one of the most exciting of the NHL’s opening week. While the Rangers have had more success, the Sabres won two of their three meetings last season.
The Rangers made a short playoff appearance last season, while Buffalo missed the postseason by a handful of games.
Team | Puck Line | Money Line | Over/Under |
New York Rangers | -1.5 (+190) | -130 | Over 6.5 (-115) |
Buffalo Sabres | +1.5 (-230) | +110 | Under 6.5 (-105) |
Don't miss out on this opportunity!
The Rangers had a disappointing first-round exit from last year’s playoffs, but they have retooled and are expected to be one of the NHL’s top ten teams. While losing Cladimi Tarrasenko hurts, New York made up for it by adding forward Blake Wheeler and blue liner Erik Gustafsson. They will be playing under a new coach, Peter Laviolette. They hope the new locker room voice will help elevate this talented team to the next level.
The biggest weapon the Rangers have is between the pipes in goalie Igor Shesterkin. The 27-year-old has been one of the best goaltenders in the league, with a 99-42 record and 2.37 GA/G over his four-year career. Shesterkin was great against Buffalo last season, allowing three goals and saving 69 shots across two starts.
The Buffalo Sabres have done a fantastic job rebuilding their team with young talent, and fans hope they will break their 12-year playoff drought. Rasmus Dahlin, Tage Thompson, Dylan Cozen, and Mattias Samuelsson lead a ground of budding stars, but they’ll need to find a way to put it all together if they want to punch their ticket to the postseason.
The biggest question around the Sabres is how their goaltending situation will play out. Veteran Craig Anderson is gone, meaning the team will rely on two very young goalies, Devon Levi and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. Buffalo likes the duo, but their youth makes it tough to judge how they will handle a full season amid a desperate push for the playoffs.
