Astros vs Rangers Betting Tips

Justin Verlander (13-8, 3.22 ERA) will be getting the start for the Astros tonight. Houston re-acquired him at the trade deadline and has gone 8-4 since. The future Hall of Famer has been fantastic in the postseason. He has allowed two runs and ten hits across 12 ⅔ innings. One of those starts came against the Rangers in Game 1, where he allowed two runs on six hits in a loss.

Left fielder Yordan Alvarez has been the hottest hitter during the 2023 postseason. He has a .419 batting average with six home runs and 13 RBIs. He had two hits and three RBIs in last night's blowout win and will be looking to stay hot against the Rangers top arm tonight.

The Rangers will once again turn to Jordan Montgomery (10-11, 3.20 ERA) to start tonight. The veteran was awful with the Cardinals to start the season, but he has been lights out since being traded to Texas at the deadline. This will be his third start of the playoffs, posting a 2.08 ERA across 17 ⅓ innings. Montgomery started the series opener in Houston and threw 6 ⅓ scoreless innings.

The Rangers' offensive success in the postseason can be attributed to rookie Josh Jung. The third baseman has a .355 batting average, three home runs, and seven RBIs. Aside from Corey Seager, most of the Rangers' offense is generated by the bottom of their lineup. Conversely, Marcus Semien (.171 BA) and Nathaniel Lowe (.206) have struggled to do much. If Texas wants to win this crucial Game 5, they’ll need one or both to step up.
