Kentucky will surely be eager to get back on the court after Tuesday's disappointing loss to Kansas. The Wildcats led the game by seven points at halftime but couldn’t close it out. Fortunately, facing Stonehill is a good opportunity for Kentucky to quickly get back on track.
Here are the Odds DraftKings is offering for Friday’s Stonehill vs. Kentucky game. Remember to bet just $5 at DraftKings to get $150 in bonus bets!
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Over/Under |
---|---|---|---|
Stonehill | +31 (-110) | N/A | Over 145 (-110) |
Kentucky | -31 (-110) | N/A | Under 145 (-110) |
It’s likely a foregone conclusion that Kentucky will win on Friday. Stonehill is only in its second season at the Division I level. However, the question is whether the Wildcats will be able to cover the 31-point spread, which is substantial despite the obvious disparity between the two programs.
The Wildcats were successful in covering the spread in a 40-point win over New Mexico State in their season opener. However, with a 29-point spread against Texas A&M-Commerce last week, Kentucky was sluggish throughout the first half and only won by 20 points, failing to cover the spread. To cover a spread like 31 points against Stonehill, the Wildcats will need to start fast and play their best for 40 minutes.
That’s not always a given with John Calipari putting together a team that’s loaded with freshmen. Granted, Antonio Reeves and Tre Mitchell give the Cats a couple of veteran leaders. But in Calipari's eight-man rotation, there are five freshmen and one sophomore. As the Wildcats showed in the first half against Kansas, they can play with anyone in the country. However, there will be plenty of growing pains along the way and it could be tough to predict when Kentucky’s youth will show.
As for Stonehill, the Skyhawks made a surprisingly smooth transition to the Division I level last season. Behind head coach Chris Krause, Stonehill finished just 14-17 overall but finished second in the Northeast Conference standings after being picked to finish last in the league’s preseason poll.
This season, the Skyhawks got off to a rough start, opening the campaign with an 89-44 loss to Georgie Washington. After beating Amy, they’ve been blown out in their last two games, a 107-67 defeat against reigning national champion UConn and a 100-56 loss against Saint Joseph’s. Stonehill has conceded an average of 85 points per game against those teams while the team’s leading scorer is averaging just 10 points per game.
After teams like George Washington and Saint Joseph’s beat Stonehill by more than 40 points, Kentucky should have no problem doing the same. With the Wildcats coming off a loss, Calipari should have no problem getting his young team focused on the next game and eager to put forth a strong effort. That should result in the Wildcats going above and beyond the 31-point spread in Friday’s game against the Skyhawks.
