Houston vs. Towson Best Bets

The Towson Tigers (2-1) have a big task ahead of them as they take one of the top-ranked teams in college basketball.

Towson started the season with a tough loss from the Colorado Buffaloes. Freshman guard Dylan Thompson was the team's leading scorer with 15 points, shooting 6-of-12 in field goals. The rest of the Tigers struggled to shoot the ball.

Towson bounced back with a 70-49 road win over the Coppin State Eagles. Freshman forward Tyler Tejada scored a team-high 17 points, shooting 6-of-10 in field goals and 4-of-5 from the three-point arc. Senior forward Messiah Jones accounted for a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Towson is coming off a 66-62 win against the Robert Morris Colonials on Sunday, Nov. 12, in their first home game of the season. Senior forward Charles Thompson was the team's leader in points scored, with 14 shooting 6-of-11 in field goals. He also accounted for 10 rebounds and two blocks.

The Cougars will play one of their toughest games this season against the Tigers. Houston already looks like one of the most complete teams in college basketball. Through three games this season, the Cougars are averaging 81.7 points per game, allowing only 43 points per game. They haven't allowed any of their opponents to score more than 50 points this season.

The Cougars possess the roster for another serious Final Four run this season. Three players through three games averaged more than 12 points this season. While they are dangerous on the offensive side of the ball, they are more dangerous on defense. The Cougars are fourth in the nation in steals per game (15). Guard Jamal Shead is averaging 3.3 steals per game. Guards Mylik Wilson and Terrance Arceneaux are averaging 2.3 steals per game. Finally, forward Ja'Vier Francis is averaging 9.3 points, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks.

If Towson can limit the turnovers and play perfectly on offense, they have a great chance to get the game close and potentially upset the Cougars. It helps Townson significantly to have a home-court advantage.
