*Statistics and rankings gathered from 2022-23 NBA season
The 2023-24 NBA season will tip off on Tuesday evening when the Los Angeles Lakers and NBA Champion Denver Nuggets face off at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado. The Lakers and Nuggets last matched up in the 2023 NBA Western Conference Finals, where Los Angeles was easily swept in four games by the eventual NBA Champions.
In their last preseason game, a 20-point loss to the Phoenix Suns, the Lakers allowed their opponents to shoot 47.3% from the field while losing on the glass 63 to 43 and committing 22 turnovers. LeBron James led the team with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists in 22 minutes of play.
In Denver’s final preseason game, the reigning NBA Champions earned a 13-point victory over the LA Clippers. The Nuggets held their opponents to 90 points, allowing just four threes on 16.7% efficiency from LA. While starting point guard Jamal Murray struggled by shooting just 3 of 11 from the field, two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic made up the difference with a classic 25-point, 14-rebound, and 8-assist night in the victory.
The Lakers will be witnessing the Denver Nuggets’ Championship ring and banner ceremony in Ball Arena, where the Nuggets were 34-7 last season - the second-best home record in the league. While the Lakers have improved their depth, the Nuggets are still searching for who might compensate for the production lost through the offseason.
