Previous Match Highlights (27-05-2020)
Samsung Lions and Lotte Giants face each other in what will be the deciding match of this series! Lotte Giants took the first match on Tuesday by a slim margin (0:1). But it was Samsung who literally came out swinging on Wednesday to win by a huge margin (11:1)!
Samsung Lions want to break the tie with Hanwha Eagles and take sole possession of eighth in the KBO table with a win.
Lotte Giants hope that redeeming themselves with a win will bump them up to fourth place in the KBO.
Samsung Lions Team Notes
|Manager:||HEO Sam Young|
|Standing:||7-13-0 (9th in KBO)|
Likely Pitchers: HEO Yoon-dong, KIM Won Jung, KOO Seung Min
Samsung Lions will be taking a big chance in this last match of the series as they are sending out HEO Yoon-dong for the first start of his career. The 18 year-old pitcher was Samsung’s selection in this past years KBO Draft. Heo was impressive in minor leagues and playoffs, but his lack of available statistics make this one hard to predict.
It won’t be a bad chance to take though. Samsung Lions have been dead center in the KBO this season in terms of pitching, posting a 4.78 ERA on the season. A team loaded with solid closers and relief pitchers, but starters that are none too consistent may as well let Heo Yoon-dong’s light shine.
They are coming off of an impressive performance at bat against Lotte Giants as well. Samsung couldn’t be stopped at-bat, as they scored a run in all but the third and ninth inning.
While such a one-sided performance is unlikely, Samsung have always had a number of players with solid hitting numbers. KIM Sang Su and KOO Ja Wook are hitting over .361 this season in a combined 112 plate appearances.
Lotte Giants Team Notes
|Manager:||HER Mun Hoe|
|Standing:||10-9-0 (5th in KBO)|
Likely Pitchers: Adrian Sampson, PARK Jin Hyung, KIM Won Jung
Adrian Sampson is the first Rangers pitcher with 11 strikeouts and no walks since Cole Hamels in 2015 ⚾️🔥👀

Lotte Giants are likely to roll out former MLB pitcher Adrian Sampson for his first start of this KBO campaign. The former Texas Rangers pitcher joins Lotte Giants during a great point in his career, still within his athletic prime and ready to contribute.
Based on his MLB stats alone, Sampson looks like he might be a star in the KBO. He posted 7.3 strikeouts per nine innings, dwarfing some of the best KBO pitchers. If he’s maintained his fitness and edge, Lotte may have a game-changing player on their hands.
Their issue in recent matches has been their hitting. While they aren’t spectacular at-bat, .260 average, they’ve been unable to keep up with Samsung Lions. In the last three matches, they’ve scored four runs to their opponents’ combined 11.
Granted those 11 runs came from Samsung Lions in their last match, but their low overall hitting numbers have been a concern. If this match stays tight late, Lotte Giants might be in trouble.
WSN’s Pick: Lotte Giants def. Samsung Lions
Samsung Lions looked excellent in their last match, but rolling out an unproven 18 year-old pitcher to an MLB veteran on Lotte Giants’ side is a bold choice that is difficult to reward. After an 11:1 drubbing, we think Lotte will win out.
