Los Angeles Dodgers vs Miami Marlins Predictions and Picks

Our Pick

It’s hard to get any value betting on the Dodgers right now because all they’re doing is winning. Then again, it’s almost impossible to pick against them. Buehler hasn’t been giving up runs and Rogers has been wonderful this year — even if he hasn’t faced a lineup as deep as Los Angeles. Still, we’re going to go Dodgers to cover the spread and thee under

Potential Rookie of the Year Gets His Biggest Test Yet.

The Marlins haven’t quite had the season they’d hoped so far in 2021. Expectations certainly weren’t high — it’s not like they were buyers in the offseason and they are in one of the tougher divisions in baseball.

But still, after being the surprise team of the year in 2020 and making a run to the NLDS, it’s been a disappointing first half of the year.

However, the returns they’ve received from Trevor Rogers have helped soften that blow. The 23-year-old lefty is the front-runner for Rookie of the Year and with good reason.

He’s 7-5 overall and tied for fifth in all of baseball with people like Max Scherzer with a 2.14 ERA, to go with 110 strikeouts in 92.1 innings.

Rogers has been remarkably consistent, too, going five innings or more and giving up two runs or fewer in 15 of 16 starts.

A man who knows a thing or two about dominating in the National League stands on the mound for the opposition with Walker Buehler taking the bump for the Dodgers. Somehow, quietly, he’s having a tremendous season.

He ranks in the top 10 in many major categories including his 8-1 (T-7th) record, 2.35 ERA (10th) and WHIP (0.90), not to mention racking up 101 strikeouts in 103.1 innings.

Buehler has been pitching his best baseball of the season, too, coming off a dominant month of June. He made six starts last month, going 5-1 overall after pitching at least six runs in every start. He also held opponents to three runs or fewer in every game.

Red Hot Dodgers Head to Miami in Final Week of First Half

There are a handful of hot teams in the majors right now, but it feels like there’s absolutely nobody who can handle the Dodgers right now.

Los Angeles has won nine straight and while they’ve had fantastic offense — they’re averaging more than 5.5 runs per game in that stretch — it’s actually their dominant pitching that’s led the way.

The Dodgers have held their opponent to three runs or fewer in eight of those nine games and given up just 18 total — or two per contest.

X-Factor to Watch on Both Sides

The Dodgers lineup is extremely deep but there’s a few batters who rise above the rest when they face lefties. For that reason, we will focus on Max Muncy.

His average isn’t great, but he gets on base a lot and hits for power. Muncy is 17-for-63 (.270) including six home runs and 11 RBIs this year, with a .439 OBP and 1.010 OPS.

For Miami, we will look at Garrett Cooper — tbe 30-year-old first baseman who has bounced back nicely since coming back from injury. Over the last week since he’s been healthy, Cooper is hitting .467 (7-of-15) with one home run and 4 RBI.
