2019 Consumers Energy 400 at Michigan International Speedway - Predictions and Odds

The 2019 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series regular season is almost over.

Only four races remain before the field gets officially set for the playoffs.

Michigan International Speedway hosts round 23 of the 2019 season.

Nine drivers have already secured their spot in the postseason, with seven still up for grabs.

Some well-known names are still hanging around the edge of the bubble, adding even more drama to the decisive stretch.

Ten drivers on this year’s grid have already won at the oval, which is above the series’ average.

Again, the weather could play a key role in deciding the race’s result, so keep an eye on it.

Favorites to Win the 2019 Consumers Energy 400

Joey Logano

Joey Logano arrives at Michigan as the early favorite, especially after his dominant showing in June.

The Team Penske driver led 163 of 200 laps from the pole on his way to victory lane.

It was Logano’s third win at the two-mile oval, tying him for the lead among active drivers.

His other two wins also came from the pole, so keep an eye on Friday’s qualifying session.

He has four top 10 finishes in his last five starts at Michigan.

The reigning Cup Series champion is in great form this season.

Logano leads the standings with two wins, nine top 5 and 14 top 10 finishes.

Kevin Harvick

Kevin Harvick’s season finally seems to be back on track.

While the Stewart-Haas driver has been consistently inside the top 5 in points, he still lacked a win.

The first victory of 2019 came three weeks ago at New Hampshire with some bold strategy calls.

Harvick followed it with a strong performance at Pocono, scoring the pole and leading the most laps.

He is the defending race winner, having scored victory in the 2018 August race.

It was his second win at the track, making him one of six active drivers with multiple wins there.

The 2014 champion led 172 laps in his last five starts at Michigan, the most among active drivers.

Harvick is third in points with one win, six top 5 and 13 top 10 finishes.

Martin Truex Jr.

Martin Truex Jr has never won at Michigan, but had some strong performances there recently.

His 8.6 average finish is good enough for fourth among the active drivers.

Truex scored two top 5 and three top 10 finishes during that span.

He finished third in the June race.

More important, however, is the fact that Truex led 144 laps in the last five Michigan races.

That’s good enough for third during that span.

The 2017 champion is tied for the series’ lead in wins this season with four.

Truex is fifth in points, having scored nine top 5 and 14 top 10 finishes.

Outside Picks for the 2019 Consumers Energy 400

Kyle Busch

Kyle Busch only has one career win at Michigan, but his average over the last five races is the highest among active drivers.

The Joe Gibbs driver scored top 10 results in all starts, with three consecutive top 5 finishes.

Busch led 76 laps during that span.

On the other hand, he has not won at Michigan since the 2012 resurfacing.

In fact, he was the last driver to win on the old surface.

He also went seven consecutive races without a top 10 after that, including five finished outside the top 30.

Despite this, the 2015 champion remains a solid pick and will be looking to bounce back from a terrible weekend at Watkins Glen.

Busch is second in points and is tied for the series’ lead in wins with four.

Denny Hamlin

Denny Hamlin is a two-time winner at Michigan, although both wins came before the changes to the track’s surface.

The Joe Gibbs driver only has two top 5 and five top 10 finishes in the 15 starts since then.

Hamlin started last year’s June race from the pole, eventually finishing eighth.

His momentum from the most recent races could play a role this time, however.

He narrowly missed out on the win at New Hampshire three weeks ago and then scored victory at Pocono two weeks ago.

After a winless season in 2018, Hamlin is looking like a contender again.

The Joe Gibbs driver is fifth in points with three wins, ten top 5 and 13 top 10 finishes.

Kurt Busch

Kurt Busch is another three-time winner at Michigan.

He remains as the best-performing Chevrolet driver in 2019.

The Chip Ganassi driver came close to winning the first Michigan race this season.

Busch nearly got around Joey Logano in a green-white-checkered finish, but ultimately came home second.

The elder Busch brother is seventh in points with one win, five top 5 and 11 top 10 finishes.

Kyle Larson

Teammate Kyle Larson is trying to avoid a second consecutive winless season.

With his back against the wall and at serious risk of being left out of playoffs, Larson will have some additional motivation.

Michigan is arguably his best track.

Larson scored three consecutive wins there between 2016 and 2017.

His best result in three races since then was a 14th place.

The Chip Ganassi driver led one lap during that span.

Michigan still looks like the best place for #42 to bounce back.

His for is on an upward trend, with three top 5 finishes in his last six starts.

This includes a season-high second place at Chicago.

Larson is 14th in the standings, 37 points above the cutoff.

He has four top 5 and eight top 10 finishes in 2019.
