Favorites to Win the 2019 Desert Diamond Casino West Valley 200

Christopher Bell

Christopher Bell is the defending race winner.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver put on a masterpiece last year, taking the checkered from 38th on the grid.

Bell led a race high 94 of 200 laps on his way to the win.

He started this year’s Summer race from the pole, led 68 laps and won stage 2 before crashing out.

It’s also worth remembering that Joe Gibbs Racing won three of the last four editions of this race.

He became the first driver to qualify for Homestead after winning at Texas last weekend.

It was Bell’s series leading eighth win of 2019.

Justin Allgaier

Justin Allgaier is the other driver with a win at ISM.

The Xfinity Series veteran’s victory came in the 2017 Summer race.

Allgaier has a very good record at Phoenix since making his return to Xfinity and joining JR Motorsports in 2016.

He has four top 5 finishes in six starts, and only missed out on the top 10 twice.

His 230 laps led are the most among all drivers in the last five races at ISM.

His results in the last two races, a 24th and 14th, don’t tell the whole story.

Allgaier led 69 laps and won both stages in last year’s Desert Diamond Casino West Valley 200, but got caught in an incident and finished down in 24th.

Earlier this year, he crashed out while running inside the top 5, finishing 14th.

Going back a bit further, he started from the pole and led 68 laps in the March 2018 race, finishing second.

Tyler Reddick

Tyler Reddick secured his spot in the Championship Four last year with a sixth place at ISM.

The reigning Xfinity champion has three top 10 finishes in four career starts at the track.

Reddick is coming off his best career finish at the track, a third place in this year’s Summer race.

The Richard Childress driver started from the front row and was scored inside the top 5 for both stages.

Given his style and consistency, Reddick is always a safe pick, no matter the track or his previous record.

Outside Picks for the 2019 Desert Diamond Casino West Valley 200

Cole Custer

Cole Custer has yet to have the kind of race we expect from him at ISM.

The Stewart-Haas driver has only led two laps at the track in five starts.

Despite starting the last four races from the second row, Custer failed to translate his qualifying pace into raceday.

He is coming off a career best fourth place finish in this year’s Summer race, his first top 5 result at Phoenix.

However, this is a career year for #00, as his seven victories all came at tracks where he had never won before.

Austin Cindric

Austin Cindric is coming off two strong races at Phoenix.

The Team Penske driver finished fourth in last year’s Desert Diamond Casino West Valley 200, scoring a third and a four place finish in stages 1 and 2.

He then had another good run earlier this year, winning stage 1 and leading 13 laps on the way to another top 5 result.

Cindric has done well this year at short tracks, finishing second at Richmond twice and also scoring a sixth and a fifth at Bristol.

John Hunter Nemechek

John Hunter Nemechek started last year’s race from the pole and led 33 laps.

Nemechek, still driving for Chip Ganassi back then, scored a fourth place finish in stage 1 and a second place in stage 2.

He dropped down to ninth at the checkered flag, but still had a good showing.

Now with GMS Racing, the rookie scored another ninth place finish in this year’s Summer race.

Despite an early elimination in the Round of 12, Nemechek has been running well in the playoffs.

He is coming off a strong sequence of three top 10 finishes.
