Brooklyn Nets (Away)

Head Coach: Kenny Atkinson {All-Time 87-156 | BKN}

Projected Starting Five: (G) D’Angelo Russell – (G) Joe Harris – (F) Rodions Kurucs – (F) Démarre Carroll – (C) Jarrett Allen

There are three games left in their season and the Brooklyn Nets are still fighting to stay in the playoff race in the Eastern Conference. With a record of 39-40, the Nets sit seventh in the East but still have a chance to fall out of the top eight. Their chances don’t improve as they take on the Milwaukee Bucks

The Nets have done their best to stay relevant in the dying embers of the season, but their schedule has done them no favors at all. They are 3-7 in their last ten and have failed to win since March 30th. The remainder of their games are against playoff-bound, Eastern Conference teams, so they will have to win if they want to stay involved.

The Brooklyn Nets are taking on a Milwaukee Bucks side that have already comfortably secured the top seed in the Eastern Conference. With so many injuries to their squad, the Nets have a chance against a limited Bucks unit. They will have to be diligent though, Giannis Antetokounmpo single-handedly took down the Sixers in their last match and shows no suggestion that he couldn’t do the same against the Nets.

Milwaukee Bucks (Home)

Head Coach: Mike Budenholzer {All-Time 272-217 | ATL, MIL}

Projected Starting Five: (G) Eric Bledsoe – (G) Sterling Brown – (F) Khris Middleton – (F) Giannis Antetokounmpo – (C) Brook Lopez

The Milwaukee Bucks have three games to go and have clinched both a playoff spot and the top seed in the Eastern Conference. They are ravaged by injuries, but it has not slowed them as evidenced by their 59-20 record. They take on a Nets team battling for survival, so it will be interesting to see if the Bucks rest on their laurels or compete until the end.

With a win over the Philadelphia 76ers the Milwaukee Bucks laid claim to the Eastern Conference crown. Despite their massive amount of injuries, the Bucks went an impressive 7-3 in their last ten games. With three games left, the Bucks have a chance to surpass their franchise-record 60-wins three more times this year.

The Bucks will have to be careful against a Brooklyn Nets side that is fighting to compete in the postseason for the first time in years. The Nets have owned a mediocre offensive and defensive record since the All-Star Break, but their individual talent is something that can carry them through.

What’s At Stake?

The Milwaukee Bucks and the Brooklyn Nets own a one-sided all-time series. In 173 regular season games, the Bucks lead the Nets 101-72.

A win for the Milwaukee Bucks would help them tie their franchise record of 60 wins.

A win for the Brooklyn Nets would help them stave off eighth place and tie them with the sixth place Orlando Magic.

Questions to answer

Is it a must-win for the Nets?

Are the Bucks definitively the best?

We are going to compare the Brooklyn Nets and the Milwaukee Bucks in an attempt to see who has the advantage in this matchup.

The Nets Are One Game Out Of Ninth

There are fewer things crueler in the NBA than the dreaded road trip. The Nets seemed to get the worst straw of them all, as they were faced with a seven-game road trip in their last ten matches. Talk about the odds being stacked against you.

At the end of the day, quality will win the match but the Nets have a young and inconsistent squad that has been taken out of their gameplan with regularity. They were torched by the Bucks in their last meeting but will want redemption tonight. Needing a 40-42 record and a favorable tie-breaker to even scrape into the playoffs, the Nets sorely desire this win.

The Bucks played throttling defense in their last match against the Nets and it is surely still on their mind. While the Nets lead the league in drives per game, the length of Lopez and Antetokounmpo stifles their attack. The Nets will need to get back to their early-season, swing offense if they want to take this game. It will be up to the Nets’ pieces to convert with efficiency.

The Bucks Are Top of the NBA

With a record of 59-20 with three games left to go, the Milwaukee Bucks have cemented themselves as the best team in the NBA. At least, that is if you go by record. Mike Budenholzer’s offensive scheme has been everything the Bucks wanted and they seem primed for a deep playoff run.

This will be the first time the Bucks clinched the league or the Eastern conference since 1961. Their swing offense surrounded by Giannis Antetokounmpo has been unstoppable this season. Opponents have succeeded at times, but the Bucks have shown that their offensive and defensive balance is rarely threatened.

They face a Brooklyn team that can provide a common problem that the Bucks struggle against – individual scoring. While the Bucks’ defense overall is stout, the disadvantages when mismatches are drawn is stark. If the Nets can get Lopez or Wilson on the hip of their guards with regularity, the Bucks will be forced out of their scheme. Milwaukee will have to adjust.

Head-to-Head: D’Angelo Russell (BKN) vs Eric Bledsoe (MIL)

A match of two of the Eastern Conferences strongest young point guards will be key in the matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Brooklyn Nets. D’Angelo Russell’s scoring has been notable but hasn’t been the game changer they’ve needed. While on the other side, Eric Bledsoe is looking to redeem himself after a quick night against Philly.

D’Angelo Russell

Point Guard | 6-5, 198lb (196cm, 89kg) | Ohio State | Exp. 3 Years

21.1 PPG | 6.9 APG | 3.8 RPG | 1.2 SPG | 0.2 BPG | 3.2 TOV | .431 FG% | .362 3P%

D’Angelo Russell has been doing all he can in recent matches to keep his Brooklyn Nets alive and in the playoff race, but it has been a difficult road. In his last three games, he is averaging 28 points, 6.3 assists, and 6.7 rebounds, but has disappointed with a 4.3 turnover per game average. Russell has been great, but in those matches, he has tended to come on late. Russell can’t wait to be assertive, he will have to take it to the Bucks from the tip if the Nets hope to take down the Bucks.

Eric Bledsoe

Point Guard | 6-1, 205lb (185cm, 92kg) | Kentucky | Exp. 8 Years

15.8 PPG | 5.4 APG | 4.6 RPG | 1.5 SPG | 0.4 BPG | 2.1 TOV | .481 FG% | .325 3P%

With Malcolm Brogdon still out, secondary playmaking duties fall to Eric Bledsoe. He was ejected with less than three minutes elapsed in the Bucks’ last match, so there isn’t much to take from that matchup. Bledsoe was brilliant in the match before that though, against the Brooklyn Nets. He posted 29 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals in a dominant win over Brooklyn. He will look to do the same while keeping D’Angelo Russell and Spencer Dinwiddie in check.
