Where: Capital One Arena, Washington, D.C.

How (TV/Radio): ESPN, NBC Sports Washington, Fox Sports Ohio | 1500 AM, WTAM 1100 / 87.7 FM (ESP)

Cleveland Cavaliers (Away)

Head Coach: John Beilin {All-Time 2-5 | CLE}

Season Record: 2-5

Projected Starting Five: (G) Collin Sexton – (G) Darius Garland – (F) Cedi Osman – (F) Kevin Love – (C) Tristan Thompson

Top Performers:

  • (F) Kevin Love – 33.7 MPG | 18.9 PPG | 14.4 RPG | 4.1 APG
  • (G) Collin Sexton – 31.0 MPG | 17.4 PPG | 3.3 RPG | .375 3P%
  • (C) Tristan Thompson – 33.7 MPG | 16.9 PPG | 11.6 RPG | 1.6 BPG

The Cleveland Cavaliers are a young team, with that comes some serious inconsistency. While Collin Sexton and Darius Garland are pieces for the future, they are currently shooting their team in the foot with their performance.

The Cavaliers aren’t impressing on either end of the court. But they, at the very least, have one of the the most exciting offensive paces in the league. Their team balance with veterans like Love and Thompson does produce the odd strike of brilliance.

They take on a similarly weak Washington Wizards team, who are also lead by a star surrounded by developing pieces. As always, Cleveland will lean on their veterans to lead their young stars.

Washington Wizards (Home)

Head Coach: Scott Brooks {All-Time 464-334 | OKC, WAS}

Season Record: 2-5

Projected Starting Five: (G) Isaiah Thomas – (G) Bradley Beal – (F) Isaac Bonga – (F) Rui Hachimura – (C) Thomas Bryant

Top Performers:

  • (G) Bradley Beal – 35.3 MPG | 27.0 PPG | 4.7 RPG | 6.1 APG
  • (C) Thomas Bryant – 29.6 MPG | 13.6 PPG | 9.9 RPG | 1.6 BPG
  • (G) Isaiah Thomas – 21.6 MPG | 13.6 PPG | 6.4 APG | .379 3P%

The Washington Wizards are more than just a work in progress. A young team with some veteran pieces looking to prove themselves, Washington hasn’t quite been able to put it all together.

It all starts with Bradley Beal. While he is having a career scoring year, he is having a difficult time being efficient, without John Wall to feed him opportunities. On the plus side, veterans Isaiah Thomas and CJ Miles have rejuvenated themselves under Scott Brooks’ system.

In the Wizards’ last loss to the Indiana Pacers, they showed some positive snapshots of what they could be. They don’t have the talent to go against a top team like Indiana, but they are certainly at the level to compete with the Cavaliers.

What’s At Stake for Cavaliers vs Wizards?

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Washington Wizards have met a number of times in this conference rivalry. In 218 regular season meetings, the Wizards lead the Cavaliers 112-106.

A win for the Cavaliers would bring them within two games of .500.

A win for the Wizards would bring them within two games of .500.

The Cavaliers Front Court Health is a Concern

While the Cleveland Cavaliers don’t inspire playoff hopes, their starting five is still one of great potential. Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson are leading as veterans should, but the likes of Cedi Osman and Collin Sexton are progressing nicely. Unfortunately, health issues are slowing their overall growth.

Head coach John Beilin has had to stagger his lineups to include Thompson or Love, due to injuries to John Henson and Ante Zizic. While Love and Thompson have been excellent, playing together is where they can really shine.

The combination of Thompson and Love has been great this season. Love hasn’t been the offensive force of years past, but his versatility combined with Thompson’s defence is something that the Cavaliers need to see more of.

Passing is Key

The Washington Wizards’ last game against the Indiana Pacers didn’t end as they desired. Odds suggest they’re more level with the Cavaliers, but they’ll have to improve on their inability to generate plays.

As a team, the Wizards lost the assist battle against the Pacers 35-24. While Thomas and Beal are excellent guards, their best playmaker Ish Smith tends to make his impact late, as he comes off the bench.

It’s difficult to imagine the Wizards will suddenly put together a motion-based offence, but with the poor shooting of Beal Washington will have to make better cuts and create off-ball opportunities to compensate.

Darius Garland Needs to Reign it in

Garland projects to be one of the most talented rookies of his class. A adept scorer and playmaker, much is expected of the young guard. To this point however, he has struggled.

Last week was difficult for Garland. In a win over the Indiana Pacers, the Cavaliers rookie was a terrible 0-10 from the field. Neither his patented rim-attack or outside shot have been falling for him.

Garland is sitting at a 37% effective field-goal percentage, while shooting a paltry 27.5% from the field and 20% from deep over the past seven days. He’s sure to pick it up, but the tough start can’t be encouraging for the rookie.

Hachimura’s Early Wall

Rui Hachimura entered his rookie season on absolute fire. The highest ever Japanese draft pick has thrilled fans and audiences with his refined game and unique physical body.

Unfortunately, Hachimura has struggled in recent matches. After scoring more than 14 points in his first four matches, Hachimura has been an average of -16.3 in his last three, even going 0-5 and contributing zero points in the Wizards’ last loss to the Pacers.

The match between the Cavaliers and the Wizards should be a high-scoring affair. Hachimura won’t have the same defensive pressure on him against the Cavaliers, but he’ll have to shake off his 7-23 shooting slump over his last three.

(C) Ante Zizic – 17 Oct 2019 – Out (Foot) – The Cavs announced that Zizic is recovering from plantar fasciitis and will miss at least the next four weeks of action.

(G) Jordan McRae – 6 Nov 2019 – Day To Day (Finger) – The Wizards have listed McRae as AVAILABLE for Wednesday’s game (Nov. 6) against the Pacers.

X-Factors: (F) Kevin Love vs (G) Bradley Beal

In a match that boasts relatively weak squads, you must look to the stars if you want to see how the teams performances might go.

Neither side looks to be playoff bound, but Kevin Love and Bradley Beal are All-Stars capable of changing a game all on their own.

(F) Kevin Love (6-8, 215lb (203cm, 97kg) | UCLA | 11 Years)

Season Age Team Games MP PTS REB AST FG% 3P%
19-20 31 CLE 7 33.7 18.9 14.4 4.1 .494 .391

To say that Kevin Love should be the first option on offence would be an understatement. Love has proven an offence can be run through him, and Cleveland would do well to let him operate out of the elbow.

After playing in the shadow of LeBron James for years, Love is back to being the first option. He is far from his 26.0 points per game days, but he will have to lead the offence if they hope to take down the hot-shooting Wizards.

(G) Bradley Beal (6-8, 215lb (203cm, 97kg) | Florida | 7 Years)

Season Age Team Games MP PTS REB AST FG% 3P%
19-20 26 WAS 7 35.3 27.0 4.7 6.1 .408 .288

Bradley Beal is a scoring extraordinaire. With John Wall out of the short-term plans, Beal has not only taken up primary scorer duties, but also primary playmaker duties.

Beal is averaging a career high in assists. Unfortunately, his shooting hasn’t trended in the same upward direction. Despite averaging a career high in scoring, he is shooting a career-worst from three and overall.

Cleveland Cavaliers at Washington Wizards Predictions

The odds will be updated as they are made available.

Why the Cleveland Cavaliers Will Win

The Cavaliers are comprised of some tough, motivated prospects. If they hope to win, they will need to find more efficiency in their offence, and take advantage of the Wizards at the rim.

Why the Washington Wizards Will Win

The Washington Wizards defence lacks experience. Luckily, despite their one-direction attitude, they have one of the most impressive offences in the league. Should they be able to reign in at least a passable defensive showing, their offence could carry them to a win.
