The LA Clippers Must Focus on Doncic
It’s an easy thing to say, that the California-based Clippers must focus on their opponents’ star player in order to win the game. But when we take a closer look at the stats, we see that LA is not being direct enough in guarding Doncic.
In-Game 4 Luka Doncic is shooting eight of 20 when one of Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, or Marcus Morris is defending him. In comparison, Doncic shot 10 of 11 against different Clipper defenders.
If George continues to struggle with his shot, he must be rabid in defending Doncic. While the Clippers are rife with star power, they have nowhere near enough in their list of accomplishments to suggest they are beyond adjusting the game plan for victory. If the can stop, even slow, Doncic the Clippers could regain control of this series.
The Mavericks Bench is On Fire
They say that everything is bigger in Texas, but it is the little guys that are keeping the Mavericks relevant in this playoff series against the Clippers.
Overshadowed by Luka Doncic’s brilliance is the play of guards Trey Burke and Seth Curry. Both capable scorers in their own way, the two have been brilliant. Burke is shooting 58% from the field and 50% from deep while Curry is shooting 65% from the field and 56% from three-point range.
Their offence is welcome in the absence of scoring from Maxi Kleber, Dorian Finney-Smith, or Delon Wright. If those players can get going, the Mavericks may have too many weapons for LA to handle.
Clippers Key Player: (G) Paul George

We mentioned him a bit earlier, but Paul George should be the focus for the Clippers in Game 5. Getting him going on offence will open up so many different avenues for LA, as well as ease the load on Kawhi Leonard.
So far in the series, George has been dreadful shooting the ball. He is averaging 15.3 points per game on 29% from the field and 22.2% from three.
George is meant to be a superstar sidekick to Kawhi Leonard. But at the moment he isn’t even looking like he’s at the level of any of Leonard’s key championship teammates from last year. George is a game-changer on the court, but it’ll be up to him and Doc Rivers to find efficient opportunities for him.
Mavericks Key Player: (G) Luka Doncic

There’s a reason why they call him Luka Magic and it has looked completely justified in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Doncic has been absolutely brilliant against the most intimidating perimeter defence in the NBA. The sophomore is averaging 21.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 9.8 assists on 51.8% shooting from the field and 37.9% from three.
It’s not an elimination match, but expect Doncic to treat it like so. His poise from being a professional since his teenage years is showing through. Just 21 years old, Doncic is looks ready to not just beat the Clippers, but announce himself as one of the best players in the world.
