Last match highlights:

The LA Clippers are, somehow, flying under the radar in the NBA. Due to the dominance of the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, and surprise Toronto Raptors, the Clippers have been looked over at times. Regardless of recognition, they sit second in the Western Conference.

The Clippers are coming off of a tough loss to their in-arena rivals the Los Angeles Lakers. Their primary competition in the West, the Clippers didn’t have the scoring efficiency to keep up with the Lakers.

LA looks for redemption when they take on the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors have found new life season Curry has returned to the lineup, albeit briefly, and their young pieces should not be looked over.

Head Coach: Steve Kerr {All-Time 337-137 | GSW}

Season Record: 15-49

Projected Starting Five: (G) Damion Lee – (G) Mychal Mulder – (F) Andrew Wiggins – (F) Juan Toscano-Anderson – (C) Marquese Chriss

Last match highlights:

The Golden State Warriors aren’t fighting for anything at this point in the NBA season. While not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, it is almost entirely out of reach. On the plus side, their young pieces have looked great as the season has worn on.

The Warriors are coming off of an impressive victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. While Philly was missing some key pieces, the Warriors received an awesome effort across the board to take down the Eastern Conference heavyweights.

We’ll see if the Warriors can hit above their average again when they take on the Los Angeles Clippers. Lockdown defensively, able offensively, and motivated after a loss to the Lakers, LA will be a different beast to what the Warriors faced last time out.

What’s at Stake?

The LA Clippers and the Golden State Warriors have met 156 times as Californian rivals. In the all-time series, the Warriors lead the Clippers 91-65.

A win for the LA Clippers would bring them within six games of the first-place Los Angeles Lakers.

A win for the Golden State Warriors would keep them last in the Western Conference and the NBA.

Questions to Answer

Will the LA Clippers supporting cast show up?

Can the Golden State Warriors maintain their excellent passing?

We are going to compare the LA Clippers and the Golden State Warriors in an attempt to see who has the advantage in this matchup.

LAC: Next Man Up

The Los Angeles Clippers’ loss to the Lakers was inopportune and was certainly a teaching moment. Despite the stardom of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, LA’s loss showed they have significant flaws outside of them.

Between Leonard, George, and Harrell, they’re only positive outside their star pair, the three combined to account for 75.7% of their teams’ total points. New acquisitions Marcus Morris, Reggie Jackson, and mainstay Lou Williams combined for 6-27 shooting and a combined 16 points.

Leonard’s playmaking has improved but forcing production on his teammates is not yet a skill of his. The Clippers outclass the Warriors as a whole but expect Doc Rivers to drill his team into contributing as a unit. It can only be good practice for the coming playoffs.

GSW: Maintain Your Style

The Golden State Warriors aren’t playing for anything at this point in the season. They won’t reach the playoffs and a recent health scare for Steph Curry forced him back out before we could take in his return. At the least, the Warriors and Steve Kerr are looking at who might have a valuable role going into next season.

The Warriors have slowly improved as the year has worn on. Their last match was impressive, as youngsters Damion Lee and Eric Paschall led the way to take down the seemingly more talented Philadelphia 76ers. With 30 assists on 44 field-goals, the Warriors prospects seem attuned to the style that Steve Kerr wants to play.

Speaking of assisting the ball, eight assists for Marquese Chriss and six assists for Eric Paschall shows that Kerr is intent on running the same sets for Draymond Green with his young big men. Considering the Clippers are stronger defensively at the wing than at the pivot, Golden State’s playmaking bigs will be at the center of their success.

LA Clippers Roster Notes

The LA Clippers have no roster changes of note.

Golden State Warriors Roster Notes

(G) Stephen Curry – 7 Mar 2020 – Day To Day (Illness) – Curry did not play in Saturday’s (Mar. 7) game against Philadelphia.

(F) Draymond Green – 2 Mar 2020 – Day To Day (Knee) – Green is listed as questionable for Tuesday’s (Mar. 3) game.

(F) Alen Smailagić – 2 Mar 2020 – Day To Day (Right Quad) – Smailagic is listed as questionable for Tuesday’s (Mar. 3) game.

(G) Klay Thompson – 20 Feb 2020 – Out For Season (Left Knee ACL Tear) – Thompson has been ruled out for the rest of the season according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Head-to-Head: (C) Montrezl Harrell vs (C) Marquese Chriss

The matchup in the middle will be essential between the Warriors and the Clippers. Montrezl Harrell’s energy will have to cope with the length and surprising production of Marquese Chriss.

(C) Montrezl Harrell (6-7, 240lb (201cm, 108kg) | Louisville | 4 Years)

SeasonAgeTeamGamesMPPTSREBASTFG%3P%
19-2026LAC6127.818.77.11.7.580.000

There isn’t much to Montrezl Harrell’s game honestly. If the ball goes up, he’ll be the first to the glass. If he rolls to the basket, his hands will be ready.

What is crucial for Harrell will be containing the playmaking ability of the Warriors’ big men Chriss and Paschall. Harrell is excellent on the offensive end but has a tendency to zone out on defense. His matchup at the pivot is essential to the Clippers’ success.

(C) Marquese Chriss (6-9, 240lb (206cm, 108kg) | Washington | 3 Years)

SeasonAgeTeamGamesMPPTSREBASTFG%3P%
19-2022GSW5820.29.36.11.9.545.205

With the expectations off his back, Marquese Chriss is really showing his value as a player. Back to production akin to his rookie season, Chriss is looking like a serviceable finishing center, with a more than respectable ability to move the ball. Since returning from injury he’s been aggressive all over the court, averaging 13.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. If Chriss’s production holds, he’ll be the key to a Warriors victory.

LA Clippers at Golden State Warriors Predictions

Will the LA Clippers win over the Warriors?

If the LA Clippers can find some production from their role players, they can take a win from the Warriors. LA simply outclasses Golden State in the talent department, a focused effort should result in a win.

Will the Golden State Warriors win over the Clippers?

Golden State took an impressive win over the Philadelphia 76ers because of their ability to move the ball and convert on easy baskets. If they maintain their playmaking and get Andrew Wiggins going, they can give the Western Conference runners up a real game.
