The LA Clippers are coming off of back to back wins against the Portland Trail Blazers and the Washington Wizards. While their winning streak is modest, they put up an astounding 117 and 150 points in each game!

The LA Clippers begin their Eastern Conference road trip when they face off against the Milwaukee Bucks. It will be the first time Leonard and Antetokounmpo face-off since the former Raptors sent the latter packing in the 2019 NBA Playoffs.

The Milwaukee Bucks will need this win to prove their quality at the top of the NBA totem pole. LA will look to prove that the Milwaukee Bucks’ second-ranked offense and defense can still be beaten.

The Milwaukee Bucks are coming off of a rematch of their Eastern Conference first-round series against the Detroit Pistons. This time around, Blake Griffin was available. Unfortunately for Detroit, the result was much of the same.

It was a routine for the Milwaukee Bucks when they defeated the Detroit Pistons. While their opposition put up a fight, Detroit couldn’t compete with the Bucks’ efficiency on offense.

Giannis showed that he is the premier forward in the Eastern Conference, putting up 35 points and 9 rebounds in the effort. Shockingly, he even nailed four three-pointers on the evening. He’ll be out to prove himself when he faces off against another former playoff rival in Kawhi Leonard.

What’s at Stake? Clippers vs Bucks Rivalry

The LA Clippers and the Milwaukee Bucks don’t meet too often, due to their position in different conferences. Over the course of 68 regular season matches, the Clippers lead the Bucks 37-31.

A win for the LA Clippers would keep them in place at second in the Western Conference.

A win for the Milwaukee Bucks would solidify their place at first in the Eastern Conference.

Questions to answer

Can the Clippers start their road trip strong?

What could possibly slow down these Milwaukee Bucks?

We are going to compare the LA Clippers and the Milwaukee Bucks in an attempt to see who has the advantage in this matchup.

The Clippers Started Strong

The LA Clippers had a short two-game home stand before they left on what will be a six game Eastern Conference road trip, starting in Milwaukee. The Clippers scored an unprecedented 267 points between their two games before leaving for Milwaukee.

Not only were they scoring at an incredible rate, the Clippers averaged 50.5 rebounds and 23.5 assists in their wins. They were also able to hold their opponent down from three, limiting the Wizards and Blazers to 31.6% shooting from deep.

There’s no better way to tune yourself up for a long Eastern Conference road trip than that. The quality jumps significantly with the Bucks, as LA will have to prove they can maintain their production against one of the East’s elite.

What Can Giannis Show Against The Klaw?

Probably the only disappointment in Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 2018-2019 MVP campaign was his exit from the 2019 NBA Playoffs. Not only was he defeated by the Kawhi Leonard led Toronto Raptors, but Leonard’s performance on him also led to their four straight losses.

The Toronto Raptors limited Antetokounmpo once Leonard became his primary defender. Giannis averaged just 20.5 points, compared to 27.0 points in the first two games where Siakam was his primary defender.

Antetokounmpo has a lot to prove in this game. Has he improved enough to get past Kawhi Leonard? The Greek Freak has expanded his range, knocking down 1.6 three-pointers made this season. It’ll take more than an improved jump shot to beat the NBA’s best wing defender, but Antetokounmpo will certainly be up for the challenge.

LA Needs A Big Start From Kawhi

The Clippers trounced the competition in their last two games, however, their last win against the Blazers was a struggle for Kawhi Leonard. On a night where they won by 20, Leonard shot just 3-15 from the field, and 2-5 from deep.

Leonard’s regular-season performance against the Bucks last year was a mixed bag. While he shot the ball fairly well, he was excellently denied by Khris Middleton during those matchups. You can always count on Leonard to crash the glass though, as he contributed at an average of seven rebounds.

With so many defenders, Leonard won’t spend all of his time guarding the Greek Freak as he did in the playoffs. The Clippers are more switchable, but Antetokounmpo will always get his fill. Managing his production and intensity on both ends of the court will be key to the Clippers’ success.

Middleton Is the Ultimate Role Player

Most will forget that during Giannis’ MVP campaign, the Milwaukee Bucks also touted another All-Star in Khris Middleton. While his numbers are slightly down this year, he remains one of the most effective players for the Bucks.

Against the Detroit Pistons, his former team, Khris Middleton contributed 17 points, but more importantly eight rebounds and five assists. Middleton’s ability as an outlet to Antetkounmpo will be essential when he faces off against Leonard and George.

He will see plenty of time guarding both of the Clippers’ All-Star wing players. While his usage is down across the board, his defensive contributions are incredibly important. If he can add some additional offense, the Bucks could just take down a giant.

LA Clippers Roster Notes

(F) Jamychal Green – 3 Dec 2019 – Day To Day (Tailbone) – Green did not play in Tuesday’s (Dec. 3) game against the Trail Blazers.

(G) Landry Shamet – 3 Dec 2019 – Day To Day (Ankle) – Shamet did not play in Tuesday’s (Dec. 3) game against Portland with a left ankle sprain.

(F) Rodney McGruder – 1 Dec 2019 – Out (Hamstring) – There is no firm return timetable from a strained hamstring, according to Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times.

Milwaukee Bucks Roster Notes

(G) Sterling Brown – 3 Dec 2019 – Day To Day (AC Joint) – Brown is listed as QUESTIONABLE for Wednesday’s (Dec 4) game against the Pistons.

(C) Brook Lopez – 3 Dec 2019 – Day To Day (Back) – Lopez is listed as PROBABLE for Wednesday’s (Dec 4) game against the Pistons.

Head-to-Head: (C) Montrezl Harrell vs (C) Brook Lopez

Look to the center position for the matchup of the night. Brook Lopez and Montrezl Harrell couldn’t have more contrasting games, but their one-on-one matchup will have a huge impact on the outcome of this match.

(C) Montrezl Harrell (6-7, 240lb (201cm, 108kg) | Louisville | 4 Years)

Season Age Team Games MP PTS REB AST FG% 3P%
19-20 26 LAC 22 29.7 19.1 8.0 2.2 .601 .000

Montrezl Harrell plays like a pickup truck. Big, heavy, and near unstoppable when it gets going. He isn’t a skilled player, but his hustle and mentality are putting him in the discussion for Sixth Man of the Year.

His ability in the paint is key for the success of the LA Clippers. He’s not an incredibly shot blocker, but he will have to be an intimidator to sway the attack of the Greek Freak. Luckily, Harrell also has the quick feet that can close out on eventual kick-outs.

(C) Brook Lopez (7-0, 270lb (213cm, 122kg) | Stanford | 11 Years)

Season Age Team Games MP PTS REB BLK FG% 3P%
19-20 31 MIL 19 27.0 10.7 4.9 2.4 .411 .289

Lopez is battling a nagging injury, but until stated otherwise he will be an essential part of this game. Lopez’s build and skillset are exactly what is needed to counter the Clippers’ hard-rebounding centers.

Lopez hasn’t been stroking it like he did last year, but his range is still deadly. The attention he draws to assist Antetokounmpo is essential. However, in order to be most effective, the Bucks need Lopez to convert on his shots from deep.

LA Clippers at Milwaukee Bucks Predictions

Why the LA Clippers Will Win

The LA Clippers are one of the most dangerous teams in the NBA. Through the sheer quality of their depth, the Clippers can overcome the Bucks. It isn’t a bad thing that they can fall back on the offense of Leonard, George, or Williams in the clutch.

Why the Milwaukee Bucks Will Win

If the Milwaukee Bucks can get their high-quality drive and kick game going, they are tough to stop. If Giannis Antetokounmpo can initiate the offense well enough to overcome LA’s terrific defenders, they could take this win.
