Season Record: 57-25

Projected Starting Five: (G) Stephen Curry – (G) Klay Thompson – (F) Kevin Durant – (F) Draymond Green – (C) Andrew Bogut

Top Performers

  • F Kevin Durant – 26.0 PPG | 6.4 RPG | 5.9 APG
  • G Stephen Curry – 27.3 PPG | .437 3P% | .916 FT%
  • G Klay Thompson 21.5 PPG | .516 2P% | .402 3P%

With a blown 31 point lead still fresh in their minds, the Golden State Warriors did not play around on Friday night, punishing the Clippers 132-105. The Warriors took control of the game early on, leading 41-24 after the first quarter and not letting up the rest of the way.

Kevin Durant led the scoring barrage with 38 points on 14 of 23 shooting, while also dishing out seven assists. Fellow All-Star Stephen Curry added 21 points, while 2015 Finals MVP Andre Iguodala came off the bench to score 15 points.

After two straight games where they committed 20+ turnovers, Steve Kerr had his team playing more under control, as they managed only 12 giveaways for the game.

Los Angeles Clippers (Home)

Head Coach: Doc Rivers {All-Time: 894-658 | ORL, BOS, LAC}

Season Record: 48-34

Projected Starting Five: (G) Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – (G) Patrick Beverley – (G) Landry Shamet – (F) Danilo Gallinari – (C) Ivica Zubac

Top Performers

  • G Lou Williams – 20.0 PPG | 5.4 APG | .361 3P%
  • Danilo Gallinari – 19.8 PPG | .433 3P% | .904 FT%
  • Montrezl Harrell – 16.6 PPG | 6.5 RPG | .615 FG%

Having expended so much energy in their game two comeback, the Clippers came out flat in their first home game of the series. With the exception of Ivica Zubac, who led the team with 18 points, LA’s starting lineup lacked their usual firepower, leaving the bench to pick up the slack.

That bench unit was led by Lou Williams, who scored 16 points, while fellow reserves Montrezl Harrell and JaMychal Green chipped in with 15 points apiece. Danilo Gallinari had a nightmare outing with his shot, as he went 2 for 13 from the field and bricked all eight of his three-point attempts.

To their credit, the Clippers did attack the rim more often with long-range shots not falling, and they were rewarded with 34 visits to the charity stripe.

What’s At Stake?

The Clippers get one more chance to keep themselves within striking distance before having to put up with a raucous Oracle Arena crowd. With the Warriors never forgetting their blown 3-1 lead in the 2016 Finals, the Clippers cannot count on the Warriors repeating that mistake.

Klay Thompson Has Been Quiet

While his fellow All-Star teammates Durant and Curry have put up big numbers in this series so far, Klay Thompson has been taken a back seat. The Washington State product has been getting his share of looks, with double-digit field goal attempts in each game of the series. He has yet to have one of his occasional explosions, as his 17 point game two performance has been his best game so far.

Although he has shot just 4 for 12 from beyond the arc, the Clippers should not count on the Splash Brother from staying cold for very long, as Thompson has averaged 18.1 points in 31 career regular season games against LA.

Can Danilo Gallinari Bounce Back?

Danilo Gallinari had one of his worst performances of the season in game two, as the Italian sharpshooter could not buy a bucket that night. After posting two solid performances in a tough environment, Gallinari struggled on his home court despite having shot 44.5% from three at the Staples Center during the regular season.

Having Kevin Durant on him for most of the game was a huge factor in his performance, and coach Doc Rivers will need to draw up some new plays to free up Gallinari for better looks.

Golden State Warriors Roster Notes

C DeMarcus Cousins – 16 Apr 2019 – Out (Torn Right Quad) – Cousins will be re-evaluated in two weeks to decide if he will play again this postseason.

C Damian Jones – 8 Mar 2019 – Out (Torn Left Pectoral) – Head coach Steve Kerr said it’s doubtful that Jones returns during the playoffs, according to a report from Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

Los Angeles Clippers Roster Notes

There are no injuries or roster changes to report for the Clippers.

X-Factors: Draymond Green (GS) vs Lou Williams (LAC)

The matchup to focus on in game three will be between two players who have excelled as playmakers so far in this series. Golden State’s Swiss army knife, Draymond Green has been setting up his All-Star teammates with quality looks, while Lou Williams has been the driving force behind the league’s best bench unit.

Draymond Green

Small Forward/Power Forward | 6-7, 230lb (201cm, 104kg) | Michigan State | Exp. 6 Years

7.4 PPG | 6.9 APG | 7.3 RPG | 1.4 SPG | 1.1 BPG | 2.6 TOV | .445 FG% | .285 3P%

Although he does not put up the scoring numbers of the Splash Brothers and Kevin Durant, Draymond Green has been the keystone of Golden State’s offense. His court vision allows him to spot open shooters and back door cut opportunities, making the Warriors a tough offense to contain.

The former Defensive Player of the Year has remained a nuisance on that end, capable of guarding anyone an opposing team can throw at him, whether it may be on the perimeter or on the block.

Lou Williams

Point Guard/Shooting Guard | 6-1, 175lb (185cm, 79kg) | South Gwinnett HS | Exp. 13 Years

20.0 PPG | 5.4 APG | 3.0 RPG | 0.8 SPG | 0.1 BPG | 2.4 TOV | .425 FG% | .361 3P%

Although he is more known as an isolation scorer, Lou Williams has had to become a facilitator in this series, with rookie guards Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Landry Shamet still learning the NBA ropes.

It has been so far so good for the 13-year veteran, as he has gelled with fellow reserve Montrezl Harrell, who has benefitted from Williams drawing help defenders, leading to dump offs for easy layups and dunks.
