The Milwaukee Bucks didn’t miss a step when they returned for the 2019 season. After a heartbreaking end to last years playoffs for them, the Bucks are back, refocused, and ready to re-establish their place in the Eastern Conference.

There isn’t much of a change to the Bucks’ game plan since the season started. They still play through Giannis Antetokounmpo but have partnered him with some new shooters to help bolster their play.

They face a Boston side that they took down in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals last season. Milwaukee will have to keep up with Boston’s high-scoring backcourt, if they hope to take away a win.

  • (G) Jaylen Brown – 28.7 MPG | 17.3 PPG | 6.7 RPG | .500 FG%

The Boston Celtics have been hot and cold in their first three games. While they struggled against the Philadelphia 76ers, they took a gutsy win against the Toronto Raptors, and dominated the New York Knicks.

The Boston Celtics will be tested heavily when they take on the Milwaukee Bucks. Boston is not expected to have their full frontcourt complement again, so they will have to fight as a team on the glass against the Bucks’ massive lineup.

The Greek Freak has been dominant in his first two matches. For the Celtics to pull out a win, they will have to pick their poison defensively while maintaining their offensive efficiency.

Bucks vs Celtics: What’s At Stake?

The Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks are two of the NBA’s oldest franchises. With 213 regular season meetings, the Celtics lead the all-time series 109-104 over the Bucks.

A win for the Bucks would send them to the top of the Eastern Conference and re-establish their dominance over the top of the East.

A win for the Boston Celtics would move them up the Eastern Conference table and prove they are stronger than they seem at first glance.

The Bucks Weapons Are Misfiring

The greatest threat to any opponent of the Milwaukee Bucks is surely Giannis Antetokounmpo. However with the attention that he draws, open three-point opportunities are certain to follow.

Unfortunately for the Bucks they are not making the mark in terms of three-point efficiency. In their first two games, the Bucks shot only 33% from deep despite their wealth of capable three point shooters.

On the other hand, the Bucks attempted 100 threes in their first two matches and turned that into 99 points. The Celtics are thin up front, so the Bucks players will have to capitalize on open kick-outs.

Can the Celtics Guard the Paint?

The Boston Celtics have historically been a stout defensive team. However with the loss of Al Horford and now injury to both Ends Kanter and Daniel Theis, the Celtics will have to work harder than ever to protect the paint.

It is no secret what the Milwaukee Bucks intend to do. They will play through Giannis Antetomounpo and hope that he will draw enough attention to force a kick out for an open shot. The Bucks don’t play the in-between game, so Boston will have one less thing to worry about.

The Celtics could improve their odds by trying to force Milwaukee’s other players to perform. In their last loss to the Heat, the Bucks stars Middleton and Antetokounmpo performed but the supporting cast failed. The Celtics may enforce a similar game plan, as they lack a singular match to The Greek Freak.

Milwaukee Have Their Hands Full on the Glass

The Milwaukee Bucks are very much a one-and-done team when it comes to the offensive end. One of the most frequent three-point shooting teams, they do little on the offensive glass and rely heavily on a team-rebounding defensively.

Outside of Antetokounmpo, their individual rebounders are scarce. Ilyasova is second on the team in rebounds per game, however giants like Brook and Robin Lopez need to provide more.

The Celtics will certainly try to stretch out the Bucks defence, so their ability to move their feet with the extra space is key. Their odds on the glass will be determined by their gang-rebounding ability.

Has Kemba Walker Found His Groove?

The loss of a player at the level of Kyrie Irving was always going to be a blow to a team. But Kemba Walker was less than impressive in his first two games with the Boston Celtics. Shooting a combined 12-40, concerns were raised quickly by his performance.

Cue the New York Knicks. After facing them, Kemba Walker dispelled many of those concerns. He was red hot from three, shooting 7-12, while also attacking off the screen and roll, and being active on defense to the tune of two steals.

A 32 point night against the Knicks is something but doesn’t prove you infallible. Especially against the hard-charging Milwaukee Bucks. Bledsoe is a tough defender and the Celtics will need every point Walker can produce to take down last year’s Eastern Conference winners.

Milwaukee Bucks Roster Notes

No current injuries to report.

Boston Celtics Roster Notes

X-Factors: (F) Ersan Ilyasova vs (C) Robert Williams

Two opposing frontcourt forces will face off when the Bucks and Celtics clash.

A rim-protecting big in Robert Williams and a stretch big in Ersan Ilyasova will have to be productive in order to drive their teams success.

(F) Ersan Ilyasova (6-10, 235lb (208cm, 106kg) | Turkey | 11 Years)

Turkish forward Ersan Ilyasova is the definition of a glue player for the Milwaukee Bucks. Not only is he one of their best rebounders, his ability to shoot the ball has been fantastic over the course of his career.

Considering Williams is one of the Celtics’ only able shot-blockers, Ilyasova will be responsible for drawing him out of the paint.

(C) Robert Williams (6-8, 237lb (203cm, 107kg) | Texas A&M | 1 Years)

Robert Williams has received a more expanded role than expected in is first three games with the Boston Celtics. Due to an untimely injury to Enes Kanter and Daniel Theis, Williams finds himself as the first choice centre.

Williams, despite his offensive limitations, has been excellent in his first three matches. He’s contributed admirably on the glass while also chipping in a block and steal per game. He will have to match Antetokounmpo in the paint, but odds are Williams is up for the challenge.

The odds will be updated as they are made available.

Why the Milwaukee Bucks Will Win

The Milwaukee Bucks will be able to take this game if their auxiliary players can capitalize on their opportunities. Giannis Antetokounmpo will have little opposition in the paint, so his ability to create will determine their success.

Why the Boston Celtics Will Win

The odds don’t look good for the Celtics but they certainly have weapons that can turn the tide. Boston needs to sore efficiently from the perimeter, while not allowing the Bucks to get too hot from three if they hope to win the match. Defence is key.
