The Milwaukee Bucks are still atop the Eastern Conference. While they have been bested a couple of times, a recent victory over the Los Angeles Lakers suggests they are the favorite to win the NBA Championship this year.

The Bucks are dominating on the inside and the outside. Their offense looks unstoppable, ranking in the top in terms of shooting percentage. Meanwhile, Antetokounmpo terrifies teams with his improvement from range.

They take on the Philadelphia 76ers, one of their chief rivals in the Eastern Conference. Their starting lineup is one of the strongest in the NBA, enough to concern a mildly injured Milwaukee side.

The Philadelphia 76ers need to right the course that their ship is on. Championship hopefuls, the Sixers are giving up ground in the Eastern Conference to teams that they should be stronger than.

In their last four games, the Sixers are 1-3. Their losses came against the Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat, and Dallas Mavericks. Not pushovers, but teams that the Sixers should be defeated if they hope to be considered contenders.

They take on a Bucks team that is dominating the NBA. The Sixers’ recent deficiencies are prime to be exposed by the Bucks. So stepping up their game will be more than necessary.

What’s At Stake?

The Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers own a rather competitive all-time series. In 210 regular season games, the Bucks lead the Sixers 109-101.

A win for the Milwaukee Bucks would solidify their place at the top of the Eastern Conference.

A win for the Philadelphia 76ers would bring them within half a game of the Toronto Raptors in fourth place.

Questions to answer

Can the Bucks continue their dominance?

Will the Sixers sort out their defensive issues?

We are going to compare the Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers in an attempt to see who has the advantage in this matchup.

Who Will Step Up for the Bucks This Time?

While the Milwaukee Bucks haven’t been debilitated by injury, they are certainly slowed with injuries to the likes of Eric Bledsoe and Wes Matthews. With the chance of their exclusion, Milwaukee has a fair amount of players ready to step in their place.

Against the New York Knicks, it was Kyle Korver who went 6-10 from the field for 17 points. Versus the Lakers, George Hill contributed 21 points off the bench to be the teams second highest scorer. Meanwhile in a loss to the Mavericks, it was Ersan Ilyasova who contributed 11 points and six rebounds in the losing effort.

The Sixers are far from a deep team, but their ability to stagger their starters’ minutes with the bench is greater than that of the Bucks. More from one is nice, but a contribution from all can help the Bucks in this high pressure game.

The Sixers Defence Must Buckle Down

Philadelphia is known as a versatile defensive team. With Simmons at point guard and Richardson and Harris to his sides, there’s not wing attack that should penetrate them. Even more, Horford and Embiid provide one of the most powerful defensive pairings in the front court.

Unfortunately, the Sixers have been exposed as of late. they are allowing their opponents to shoot 48.1% from the field and 39.8% from three in their most recent three losses. Even worse, they are giving up 20.0 free-throw attempts per game to their own 17.7.

The Bucks are already the top team in the paint and ninth overall in three-point percentage. The Sixers’ success will ride on their ability to stop the Bucks’ offensive onslaught.

Milwaukee – Dominate the Glass

Forget the three-point shooting, the paint dominance, and the brilliant ball movement. If there is one place where the Milwaukee Bucks have dominated their opponents, it is with their play on the glass.

The Bucks are ranked first in the NBA in rebounds per game at 51.0. Nine different players average more than three-points per game, while each of those players have appeared in at least 22 matches for Budenholzer’s team.

The Sixers have the length to match up with the Bucks, so a concentrated team effort on the glass will be important. Giannis is leading the Bucks with 12.7 rebounds per game, but the Sixers will be more than prepared with their massive trio of Harris, Simmons, and Embiid.

The Sixers Go As Simmons Does

Ben Simmons has not progressed in the fashion that Sixers fans have hoped this season. What is still true though, is that his ability to create plays is what determines the teams success.

Simmons’ numbers in victories and losses aren’t too different, except for when it comes to his assist numbers. He averages almost nine assists per game in wins, versus seven in losses.

The Australian is almost unstoppable getting to the rim, but he hasn’t been a great pick and roll partner with Embiid. If they want to get their shooting on track, his creation will be key for shooters like Harris, Richardson, and Horford.

Head-to-Head: (F) Giannis Antetokounmpo vs (C) Joel Embiid

Two of the NBA’s biggest stars face off as Giannis Antetokounmpo hopes to match Joel Embiid in the paint.

(F) Giannis Anteokounmpo (6-11, 242lb (211cm, 109kg) | Greece | 6 Years)

Season Age Team Games MP PTS REB AST FG% 3P%
19-20 25 MIL 29 31.1 31.4 12.7 5.5 .569 .342

Giannis Antetokounmpo is the second highest leading scorer in the NBA. Only trailing James Harden, The Greek Freak’s ability to put the ball in the basket is near unmatched. His production is all done with the lowest minutes per game average of all top ten scorers in the league.

When he faces off against the Sixers he’ll be facing a top ten side in terms of paint defence. Embiid will be a tough matchup at the rim, so Giannis will have to have his passing game on point.

(C) Joel Embiid (7-0, 250lb (213cm, 113kg) | Kansas/Cameroon | 3 Years)

Season Age Team Games MP PTS REB AST FG% 3P%
19-20 25 PHI 25 30.9 23.1 12.8 3.2 .464 .311

Joel Embiid has been up and down in his last three games. While he is averaging 25.3 points and 16.3 rebounds, his team is 1-2 in those pervious three matches.

The story is beaten to death, but Embiid must establish himself in the post if the Sixers hope to win. Lopez will drag him out to the three-point line, so he will have to move his feet well enough to keep up.

Milwaukee Bucks at Philadelphia 76ers Predictions and Odds

Why the Milwaukee Bucks Will Win

The Bucks have the offensive firepower to take down any team. Dominating the Sixers in the paint and adding timely three-point shooting has been too much for any team to overcome. This game could be no different.

Why the Philadelphia 76ers Will Win

The Sixers need to beat the Bucks at their own game. They have an amazing starting line, but their effort and efficiency has been lacking of late. Establishing themselves inside before they start jacking up threes will be the key to success.

WSN’s Pick

The Milwaukee Bucks have passed every test while the Philadelphia 76ers have been in freewill. There’s no reason to believe the Bucks will slow now.
