Last Match Highlights:

The New Orleans Pelicans are fighting to make the eighth seed in the Western Conference. While they are currently ninth, with four games between them and the Grizzlies, their recent run of form hasn’t done them any favors.

The Pelicans are coming off of a 120-107 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

It was their second win in a row, after dropping three straight to open March. They’ll be looking to secure at least a .500 record over this four-game road trip.

New Orleans has their work cut out for them when they face off against the Sacramento Kings.

The Kings had the best record coming out of the All-Star break until their recent loss against the Toronto Raptors. They’ll be hungry to get back on track against the Pelicans.

Head Coach: Luke Walton {All-Time 126-184 | LAL, SAC}

  • (F) Harrison Barnes – 34.9 MPG | 14.7 PPG | 4.8 RPG | .524 eFG%

Last Match Highlights:

The Sacramento Kings have the same win-loss record as the New Orleans Pelicans, but they are behind them in the regular-season series.

Tenth in the West with just a half-game lead over the Portland Trail Blazers, the Kings need this win.

The Kings are coming off of a loss to the reigning NBA Champion Toronto Raptors. While they were able to fight with the Raptors all game long, a crucial mistake in the dying seconds cost them the game.

Sacramento takes on a high-flying New Orleans Pelicans team that likes to push the pace in transition. Compared to the Kings’ own sluggish pace, the team that can enforce their style best will likely come out with a victory.

What’s at Stake?

The New Orleans Pelicans and the Sacramento Kings don’t meet often. In 60 regular-season meetings, the Pelicans lead the Kings 34-26.

A win for the New Orleans Pelicans would give them a single game lead over the Sacramento Kings, and bring them within 3.5 games of a playoff spot.

Questions to Answer

Do the Pelicans have the depth to keep them in games?

Can the Kings perform in clutch moments?

We are going to compare the New Orleans Pelicans and the Sacramento Kings in an attempt to see who has the advantage in this matchup.

NOP: Improve Bench Production

The New Orleans Pelicans have a dangerous starting lineup. They have versatility across the line, individual shooting from multiple positions, and they are dangerous on the glass. If they hope to take down the Sacramento Kings and push for the playoffs, they’ll need more even contributions from their bench.

The Pelicans are coming off of a strong win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. While the Wolves are not the strongest team, the Pelicans didn’t do themselves any favors with their bench production.

Their bench accounted for only 18 of their 120 points on the evening. Nicolo Melli was their only productive reserve with 11 points on the evening. The talent of their first five is apparent, however, the likes of Josh Hart and E’Twaun Moore need to produce more to stay competitive.

SAC: Composure in Clutch Moments

The Sacramento Kings came out of the All-Star break absolutely on fire. They had the best record in the league, going 6-1. While their schedule was mostly beneficial, their ability to perform in the clutch was notable.

Unfortunately, they still have quite a few growing pains to overcome. Against a depleted and exhausted Toronto Raptors team, the Sacramento Kings struggled to take hold of the game. In the dying moments, Luke Walton puzzled audiences by having Nemanja Bjelica shoot a contested three with plenty of time on the clock. It did not work out for them.

Luke Walton has been on the hot seat since the Kings’ difficult start to the season. Not having Buddy Hield in the game to take the game-winning shot was the question last time out. How he handles clutch moments, end of clock situations and out-of-timeout plays will be crucial to how they win matches.

New Orleans Pelicans Roster Notes

(G) Nickeil Alexander-Walker – 7 Mar 2020 – Out (Wrist) – The Pelicans announced that Alexander-Walker has a hairline fracture in his right wrist and will be out indefinitely.

(G) JJ Redick – 1 Mar 2020 – Out (Hamstring) – The Pelicans announced that Redick will be shut down for two weeks before being re-evaluated.

(F) Darius Miller – 23 Oct 2019 – Out (Achilles) – Miller is not expected to play this season as he recovers from a ruptured right Achilles tendon, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Sacramento Kings Roster Notes

(F) Marvin Bagley – 20 Feb 2020 – Out (Foot) – The Kings announced that Bagley will be re-evaluated in three weeks

Head-to-Head: (F) Brandon Ingram vs (F) Harrison Barnes

Two of the NBA’s best young wings face off when Brandon Ingram looks to get his scoring off against utility man Harrison Barnes. Neither were incredibly impressive in their last match, so expect both to come out focused.

(F) Brandon Ingram (6-7, 190lb (201cm, 86kg) | Duke | 3 Years)

Brandon Ingram is coming off of a modest game in his last victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He contributed 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists on 50% shooting from the field. With more weapons available to him than ever before, Ingram’s passing game has come to the forefront. In a jam though, the first-time All-Star will be New Orleans’ first-choice to bail them out.

(F) Harrison Barnes (6-8, 225lb (203cm, 102kg) | North Carolina | 7 Years)

Harrison Barnes, now 27 years old, has never quite lived up to the billing as a star player in this NBA. On the plus side, he is a capable utility man, able to contribute all over the court. The Kings needed him more in their last outing, where e opted only nine points and five rebounds on 30% shooting. He’ll have two-way responsibilities against the fast-paced Pelicans.

New Orleans Pelicans at Sacramento Kings Predictions

Will the Pelicans win over the Kings?

The New Orleans Pelicans have a pace that few teams in the NBA can keep up with. Considering the Kings’ rather traditional frontcourt of Bjelica and Giles, New Orleans can take this match with easy baskets in transition.

Will the Kings win over the Pelicans?

The Sacramento Kings have found their rhythm in the half-court. Their job will be preventing the Pelicans from getting out and taking advantage of them in transition. If they can punish the Pelicans from the outside and defend the break, the match is theirs.
