Philadelphia 76ers (Away)

Head Coach: Brett Brown {All-Time 216-339 | PHI}

Season Record: 38-25

Projected Starting Five: (G) Shake Milton – (G) Matisse Thybulle – (F) Tobias Harris – (F) Mike Scott – (C) Al Horford

  • (G) Ben Simmons – 35.7 MPG | 16.7 PPG | 8.2 APG | 7.8 RPG

The Philadelphia 76ers have been treading water ever since Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid went down. They are still fifth in the Eastern Conference but hold only a half-game lead over the Indiana Pacers.

The Sixers are coming off of a comfortable win over the Sacramento Kings. Despite a competitive first quarter, Philadelphia ran away with the game from the second quarter on. The received excellent contributions from their de facto leader Tobias Harris and recent starlet Shake Milton.

Philadelphia will face off with a Golden State Warriors team that put in a fantastic effort in their last match against the Toronto Raptors. Looking revitalized and nostalgically dangerous, the Warriors are looking competitive.

Golden State Warriors (Home)

Head Coach: Steve Kerr {All-Time 336-139 | GSW}

Season Record: 14-49

Projected Starting Five: (G) Stephen Curry – (G) Damion Lee – (F) Andrew Wiggins – (F) Juan Toscano-Anderson – (C) Marquese Chriss

  • (F) Eric Paschall – 27.4 MPG | 13.8 PPG | 4.7 RPG | .495 FG%

The Golden State Warriors are at the bottom of the Western Conference and the bottom of the NBA standings. Injuries have decimated the all season, with little to encourage their fans all year. The return of Stephen Curry has been positive, but little else has been in their favour this season.

The Warriors are coming off of an impressive performance against the Toronto Raptors. Not only did they go blow-for-blow with their Championship rivals, the return of Stephen Curry buoyed the performance of everyone else on the court.

Golden State has a tough task on their hands with the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite Embiid and Simmons being out, the Warriors still face a capable defensive unit. They’ll need to show that they can handle the Sixers’ barrage from deep.

What’s At Stake?

The Philadelphia 76ers and the Golden State Warriors are two iconic NBA franchises. Over 318 regular-season meetings, the Sixers lead the Warriors 167-151.

A win for the Philadelphia 76ers would keep them ahead of the Indiana Pacers who trail them by half a game in the Eastern Conference.

A win for the Golden State Warriors would do nothing for their standing, keeping them last in the Western Conference.

Questions to answer

Can the Sixers defence provide a challenge?

Will the Golden State Warriors win the rebounding battle?

We are going to compare the Philadelphia 76ers and the Golden State Warriors in an attempt to see who has the advantage in this matchup.

PHI: Show Some Resistance

The Philadelphia 76ers came up with a win in their last match against the Sacramento Kings. Despite blowing out their opponents by 17 points, it wasn’t exactly a defensive masterclass.

Against the Kings the Sixers allowed 53.2% shooting from the field, 37.9% shooting from deep, 18 fast-break points to their own nine, and they were beaten in the paint 56 to 52. If the Sixers want to defeat the Warriors, they can’t put forth such a lackadaisical effort on defence again.

Where Philadelphia did exceed though was on the glass. The Sixers starting lineup accounted for 12 offensive rebounds, affording them crucial second chances. Against the small Warriors, they’ll be the favourite on the glass.

GSW: Do the Dirty Work

At the end of the day, the Golden State Warriors were merely outclassed by the competition in their last match against the Toronto Raptors. While the Dubs were in it for a while, the quality showed through in the end. What kept them in the game though, is exactly what they need against the Sixers.

The Warriors were tremendous on the glass, absolutely dominating the Raptors in the rebounding department 52 to 39. Their offensive rebounding, in particular, was their strong suit, winning 14-3.

Unfortunately, it didn’t make up for their struggles to convert from deep or 15 turnovers on the game. The Sixers are as defensively adept as the Raptors, so if the Warriors hope to win they’ll have to be more disciplined with the ball and put up a similar effort on the glass.

Head-to-Head: (F) Tobias Harris vs (G) Stephen Curry

The two-star players of the Philadelphia 76ers and the Golden State Warriors face-off. Tobias Harris and Stephen Curry lead two depleted squads – they’ll certainly be the focal point of their team’s offense in this matchup.

(F) Tobias Harris (6-8, 235lb (203cm, 106kg) | Tennessee | 8 Years)

SeasonAgeTeamGamesMPPTSREBASTFG%3P%
19-2027PHI6234.619.26.73.1.474.364

Since Tobias Harris has been the primary option for the Philadelphia 76ers, he has been brilliant. He is averaging 31.9 points per game on 55% shooting from the field and 42.1% from three. His offensive prowess has been invaluable, over the course of their road trip. One more strong night and the Sixers can recover a .500 record over their West Coast trip.

(G) Stephen Curry (6-3, 190lb (190cm, 86kg) | Davidson | 10 Years)

Don’t look now, but Stephen Curry is back in the game. Not only is he looking to suit up for the Warriors regularly, but he was also impactful in his return match against the Raptors. Curry posted 23 points, seven assists, and six rebounds on 6-16 shooting. On a minutes restriction, Curry still opened up the floor for his teammates. His playmaking is a welcome sight for the Warriors.

Philadelphia 76ers at Golden State Warriors FAQ

Why the Philadelphia 76ers Will Win

The Warriors are weak inside and the Sixers have the personnel to exploit it. While they will always look to the long-ball first, the Sixers can take the game by taking a pragmatic approach.

Why the Golden State Warriors Will Win

If the Warriors can take a cue from their last match against the Raptors, it all be to battle on the inside. The combination of Horford and Pelle is tougher than Ibaka and Boucher in the paint, but any amount of second chances will help the Warriors stay in the game.
