2022 AAC Men

Who Has the Best Odds to win the 2022 AAC Tournament?

According to Vegas Insider, as of November 30, 2021, the Memphis Tigers have the best odds to win the 2022 AAC Tournament. Memphis has +175 odds to win the tournament. They are currently ranked 18th in the nation and have a large freshman class headlined by forward Emoni Bates.

Bates initially committed to play basketball at Michigan State but decommited in his senior year of high school and chose to play at Memphis. Unfortunately, Bates cannot be drafted into the NBA next year because he is too young, but he is expected to be a lottery pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

The Houston Cougars have the second-best odds to win the tournament at +225. Houston is currently ranked 15th in the nation. They are currently in first place in the AAC Standings before conference play starts, with a record of 7-1. Houston has an older team. None of their top-five scorers are freshmen. Their leading scorer, guard Marcus Sasser, is a junior.

After Memphis and Houston, Wichita State, UCF, SMU, and Cincinnati have the next best odds at +600, +700, +800, and +900, respectively. Wichita State is 6-1 and has beaten every unranked opponent they have faced this year.

2022 AAC Men’s Basketball Tournament Predictions

Memphis and Houston have the best shots at winning the AAC Tournament. They are the best teams in their conference. Every year we see not-so-great teams go on runs and win these tournaments, but I do not think that will be the case in this tournament this year.

Memphis and Houston are by far the best teams in their conference. They will probably trade off spots in the top of the conference standings for a large chunk of the season. Houston has a veteran squad and is poised for a big run this year, while Memphis has an exciting young team.

I am always prone to side with the veteran squad over the young team, so I will pick the Houston Cougars to win the AAC Tournament this year. Memphis will still make the NCAA Tournament, but they will not receive an automatic bid. I also expect Wichita State to sneak into the NCAA Tournament. Houston, Memphis, and Wichita State should play well enough this season to receive first-round byes in the AAC Tournament.

Is American Athletic Conference Division I?

The AAC is in NCAA Division I. The AAC is part of the Group of Five Conferences. The Group of Five consists of the AAC, Conference USA (C-USA), Mid-American Conference (MAC), Mountain West Conference (MW), and Sun Belt Conference (Sun Belt).

The Group of Five Conferences is the most reputable group of conferences for basketball outside of the Power Five (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, PAC-12, SEC).
