After losing two weeks in a row, the New Orleans Saints have turned matters around and are now on a three-game winning streak that takes them to Soldier Field in blustery Chicago, where these two franchises are about even in past matchups, with both teams needing a win here to make a move towards the postseason.

The Chicago Bears are coming off a disappointing showing on Monday Night Football in Week 7 when they took their second loss of the season, this one to an offensively powerful Rams team, and now QB Nick Foles and his Bears face a Saints team that’s just as productive on that same side of the ball.

The two NFC rivals have faced each other 31 times (including 2 postseason games), with the Chicago Bears winning 15 of those games and the New Orleans Saints winning 16 of them.

Can Saints QB Drew Brees Continue His Upward Slide?

Saints quarterback Drew Brees had a passer rating of just 87.6 in Week 5 but two weeks later after the team’s bye, the future Hall of Famer posted a rating of 118.4 in the team’s win over the Carolina Panthers.

Could be a sign that the notoriously slow starter is warmed up and ready to make his typical upward slide in production that has helped his Saints make it to the playoffs for the last three seasons in a row.

Brees may have to play without his star receiver Michael Thomas, who is listed as questionable for this one, still dealing with a hamstring issue and remains a game-time decision by head coach Sean Payton.

Can the Bears Outscore the Saints with That Nick Foles Offense?

Bears QB Nick Foles is now 2-2 after becoming the starter under center in Chicago, the result of poor play by Mitchell Trubisky, who was originally drafted to be the team’s franchise quarterback of the future.

Now Foles, a journeyman backup who led the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl win just a few seasons ago in a somewhat similar situation where he had to jump onto the field in the middle of the season.

Foles threw two interceptions last week against the Rams in the Bears second loss of the season, so he will have to fix whatever he wasn’t seeing because the Saints 9th ranked passing defense will be just as unforgiving.

Editor’s Picks

Saints Key Player: (WR) Rookie Marquez Callaway

Saints rookie wide receiver Marquez Callaway is slowly becoming an important part of quarterback Drew Brees’ passing attack, as evidenced by the duo’s excellent products during the team’s Week 7 win over the Panthers.

Callaway had 8 catches in that game for 75 yards, leading the team in both categories and averaging 9.4 yards per reception, consistency which also helps the team’s rushing attack since defenses now have to account for this speedy rookie.

If Michael Thomas can’t go on Sunday because of his sore hamstring, then that puts even more pressure on Callaway to step up as a solid backup to starters Deonte Harris, Tre’ Quan Harris, and Tre’Quan Smith, a deep receiver room that Brees can count on.

Bears Key Player: (LB) Khalil Mack

Chicago Bears linebacker Khalil Mack has been in the league since 2014 and with the Bears since 2018, a solid part of the defense who has 67 total sacks in his career.

Mack is a key part of this Bears 10th ranked defense that only allows opponents to put an average of 20 points per game on the scoreboard.

Currently, Mack is listed as questionable with an ankle injury and will be a game-time decision on Sunday, a player that, if he can go, will be key to a Bears victory, his 5.5 sacks and 9 quarterback hits in 2020 a clear warning to Brees that he best not hang onto the ball for very long.
