Steelers vs Ravens Predictions and Picks

The Ravens might eventually win this one, but with points added in it might be better to put your money on these Steelers, who seem to be marching themselves straight towards the postseason.

Last week the Steelers’ defense bent but it didn’t break as the team from Pittsburgh snagged a close win over the Tennessee Titans, and that’s despite their QB Big Ben Roethlisberger tossing three interceptions during the game.

The last time they were on the field in Week 6, the Baltimore Ravens took a close win against the Eagles off of quarterback Lamar Jackson’s production, 16 completions for 186 yards and a touchdown plus 9 carries for another 108 yards and a touchdown.

These two divisional rivals have met each other 52 times (including 4 postseason games), with the Baltimore Ravens winning 24 of those matchups and the Pittsburgh Steelers winning 28 of the games.

Can the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Defensive Line Make Lamar Jackson Suffer?

One of the scariest stats on Ravens’ QB Lamar Jackson’s line is the number of sacks he has had to endure so far in just six games, his front line allowing defenses to take him down 15 times so far this season.

Bad news for Jackson – the Pittsburgh Steelers team leads the league in sacks per game with 4.3, with linebacker T.J. Watt having posted 5.5 sacks in 2020 all by himself, while his partner Bud Dupree has 5 sacks on his own.

The key for the Steelers to stop the Ravens is to keep their mobile QB Jackson from being able to leave the pocket, though, with his solid arm and a decent run game, Baltimore still has plenty of ways to win this one.

Can the Baltimore Ravens Score Points on the League’s Best Defense?

Both the Ravens and the Steelers score around 30 points per game, but the Steelers definitely have the better defense, currently ranked first in the league while the Baltimore squad sits at ninth overall.

Last season, the Ravens’ rushing attack was ranked first for most of the year, and right now they are again first in the league in that category, averaging 164.3 yards on the ground per outing.

The bad news is that only the winless New York Jets have a worse passing attack than the Ravens, so if they expect to win this one, they best get guys like WRs Willie Snead and Marquise Brown more involved.

Editor’s Picks

Steelers Key Player: (DE) Stephon Tuitt

On a Steelers defense that is filled with so many stars, one lesser-known playmaker is defensive end Stephon Tuitt, who is quietly putting together a nice 2020 season so far on the league’s best defense right now.

During his Steelers’ six-game winning streak this year, Tuitt has posted 4 sacks and 14 quarterback hits along with a pass defended a forced fumble, and 16 tackles with 3 of those being for a loss.

Tuitt gets to take advantage of all the double teams that opponents are putting on guys like LBs T.J. Watt, Bud Dupree, and DT Cameron Heyward, so he could prove to be one of the keys to putting even more pressure on Jackson during this battle for the AFC North.

Ravens Key Player: (QB) Lamar Jackson

This season, Lamar Jackson has a 5-1 record and 102 completions for 1,135 yards and 10 touchdowns through the air, plus add to that 50 carries for another 346 yards and 2 touchdowns, making him a scary double threat out of the Ravens’ backfield.

To beat the Steelers, Jackson will have to operate the Ravens passing and rushing attack equally effective against a defense that is currently ranked number one in the league.

The Steelers are slightly better defending against the pass (6th) than the run (2nd) but with the type of pressure their defensive line puts on opposing quarterbacks, Jackson and the Ravens offense might not have much time to do either on Sunday.
