Typically, the previous Super Bowl Champion (New England Patriots) would host the opening game of the season, but since the NFL is celebrating its 100th anniversary next season, the powers that be thought it would be more entertaining to start things off with one of the oldest rivalries in the league.

The Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears started facing off in 1921, and almost one hundred seasons later it looks to be another close one, with Green Bay’s veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers trying to prove he can still win with a banged up body against Chicago’s fierce defense and upgraded offense.

The Minnesota Vikings have beaten the Atlanta Falcons the last three times they’ve played, and in Week 1 they are expected to take care of business once again.

The Falcons have used the offseason to revamp their 29th ranked defense, while the Vikings have attempted to beef up their offensive line in order to protect their $84 million investment, quarterback Kirk Cousins, who did not deliver as expected last season.

The Miami Dolphins were expected to be a hot mess in 2019, but then they grabbed three quarterbacks in the offseason (including Josh Rosen from Arizona) and used free agency to fill in some other major roster holes, but despite all that, they are still predicted to fall to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1.

The Ravens have used the draft and free agency to snag some reliable targets for quarterback Lamar Jackson should he choose not to run the ball himself, though now with running back Mark Ingram in the backfield with him he’ll have plenty of other options to choose from.

The Buffalo Bills have spent this offseason doing their best to build around quarterback Josh Allen, including three new offensive linemen, three new wide receivers and three new running backs, but that’s still not enough to favor them over the highly improved New York Jets.

The Jets have given second-year quarterback Sam Darnold a huge gift by landing running back Le’Veon Bell, assuming he still has the goods after sitting out last season, but the team is also dealing with a new head coach and offensive and defensive coordinators, so pulling it all together effectively will be a challenge.

Even though the Kansas City Chiefs have last season’s MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes, they will most likely be without their other best player, speedy receiver Tyreek Hill, after some alleged off the field abusive behavior was caught on tape.

They will face the Jacksonville Jaguars, aka Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles’ new home, and the football world will get to see if the former backup can work his magic under the spotlight all season long, with defensive help from first-round pick linebacker Josh Allen.

The Super Bowl runner up Los Angeles Rams didn’t do much tinkering with their team except add a high-level backup quarterback and a defensive specialist, inside linebacker Clay Matthews, who will most likely give defensive end Aaron Donald some quarterback hunting help.

They’re slightly favored against the Carolina Panthers, whose franchise quarterback Cam Newton may not be able to play in Week 1 while he is still recovering from shoulder surgery, so backup Taylor Heinicke will have to rely on running back Christian McCaffrey and receivers D.J. Moore, an All-Rookie last season, and newly acquired Chris Hogan from the Patriots.

The Tennessee Titans had a somewhat interesting offseason, trading for a backup quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, to be there in case starter Marcus Mariota continues to get bit by the injury bug, and drafting defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, who is unlikely to play in 2019 due to a torn ACL.

The favored Cleveland Browns, on the other hand, had an incredible offseason, snagging receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and defensive line help with Olivier Vernon and Sheldon Richardson – add to that quarterback Baker Mayfield and you can see why there are postseason whispers in Cleveland.

The Washington Redskins lost their starting quarterback Alex Smith last season to a leg injury in Week 11, so during the offseason, they traded for Case Keenum and drafted Ohio State superstar Dwayne Haskins to prevent what happened after Smith was gone, which was 6 out of 7 losses to end the season.

Favored by over a touchdown are the Philadelphia Eagles, their starting (and injury prone) quarterback Carson Wentz will have to prove he can stay healthy for a full season, but having running back Jordan Howard with him in the backfield and receiver Desean Jackson as a target should help.

Cincinnati Bengals owner / general manager Mike Brown let head coach Marvin Lewis go after 16 seasons and brought in the former quarterbacks coach of the Rams Zac Taylor to see if he can help quarterback Andy Dalton get a grip on his struggling team.

The favored team here is the Seattle Seahawks, who added some defensive depth this offseason including two defensive ends – first round draft pick L.J. Collier and free agent Cassius Marsh, who can hopefully help get quarterback Russell Wilson on the field more often.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is healed and ready to get back at it again, now with the free agent receiver, Devin Funchess as another target to his while defenses are double-teaming T.Y. Hilton.

The Los Angeles Chargers are favored by a field goal in this one and Philip Rivers’ team looks about the same as last season but with some defensive help from free agent linebacker Thomas Davis and the first-round draft pick Notre Dame linebacker, Jerry Tillery.

September 8, 2019 – Detroit Lions vs. Arizona Cardinals

The Detroit Lions have been busy this offseason, giving franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford a proven slot receiver, Danny Amendola, but also a huge tight end target, the first rounder from Iowa T.J. Hockenson.

The surprisingly favored Arizona Cardinals went from the worst team in the NFL to one with hope now that new head coach Kliff Kingsbury has his quarterback, first selection overall in the draft Kyler Murray, who is expected to bring a Mahomes-like presence to Arizona’s passing attack.

The New York Giants attempted to improve both lines this offseason, but they lost arguably one of the best receives in the league, Odell Beckham, and though newly acquired Golden Tate should give quarterback Eli Manning another decent target, the offense will again revolve around last year’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, running back Saquon Barkley.

The Dallas Cowboys are favored by over a touchdown in this one, not just because they’ve won the last three matchups between these two teams, but also because they’ve improved their offense by giving quarterback Dak Prescott a solid receiver in Randall Cobb and a future hall of famer in tight end Jason Witten, who returns after spending a year in the broadcasting booth.

The San Francisco 49ers are counting on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to fully recover from the torn ACL that ended his 2018 season, and they are hoping to keep him on the field now that new defensive ends Dee Ford and Nick Bosa are on the roster.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the slight underdogs in this one despite drafting and signing defensive help, including the fifth pick overall, LSU linebacker Devin White, but until quarterback Jameis Winston finds consistency, winning will be difficult.

Though the Pittsburgh Steelers lost two of their best players (Bell, Brown), they’re confident with who still remains (Conner, Smith-Schuster), especially now that they have drafted a linebacker they feel can quarterback the defense, Michigan’s Devin Bush.

The Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots are favored to win at home here by almost a touchdown, and this offseason they’ve given GOAT quarterback Tom Brady a slew of new targets to make up for the loss of retired tight end Rob Gronkowski.

To kick off the 2019-20 NFL season, there are two Monday Night games, the first one being a cross-conference matchup between the Houston Texans and the favored New Orleans Saints.

Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson has never beaten Saints veteran and future Hall-of-Famer Drew Brees, and it’s not going to be any easier this Week 1, especially after New Orleans general manager Mickey Loomis used the offseason to fill in some roster gaps, including adding veteran tight end Jared Cook.

The Denver Broncos are giving quarterback Joe Flacco his first shot outside of Baltimore, and they are the slight underdogs here despite having drafted the tight end from Iowa Noah Fant.

The Oakland Raiders find themselves favored in this one thanks to a killer draft and free agency where they added receivers Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams and Ryan Grant, rookie running back Josh Jacobs and a slew of defensive help.
