Colorado Avalanche (Away)

Head Coach: Jared Bednar {All-Time 103-116-27 COL}

The Colorado Avalanche found themselves in a hard-battled back-and-forth game in game six against the San Jose Sharks who were dead set on eliminating the Avs two nights ago. However, the Avalanche managed to not only keep up with but also out play the Sharks in key areas and managed to take the victory in overtime, having captain Gabriel Landeskog net the winner, pushing the series to a game seven.

Colorado had the upper hand all game, keeping the Sharks at bay and having them play from behind the whole matchup. The Avalanche outplayed the Sharks in most key stats. They won 52.9 percent of the faceoffs, outhit their opponents 31-26, and outshot them 26-22. They are also no stranger to overtime, keeping things calm and collected during the extra time and extending their overtime winning streak to 3-0 in the 2019 playoffs.

As per usual, goaltender Philipp Grubauer will be between the pipes for the Colorado Avalanche when they take on the Sharks in game seven. Through 11 games in the playoffs this year, Grubauer has managed a 2.23 goals against average, a .928 save percentage, one shutout, and one assist.

San Jose Sharks (Home)

Head Coach: Peter DeBoer {All-Time 400-313-109 SJ, NJD, FLA}

Although they dropped game six in overtime, the San Jose Sharks showed their determination and will to win after coming from behind to tie the game on three separate occasions throughout the game. They played the whole game with heart despite captain Joe Pavelski missing his sixth straight game with a head injury.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic had two goals in this game - he has three in the playoffs after scoring only three goals all season. Timo Meier and Gustav Nyquist had two assists apiece, and Brent Burns and Erik Karlsson had a point each.

The Sharks won their first game seven of the year in the first round against the Vegas Golden Knights. They are 7-4 in team game seven history.

Goaltender Martin Jones will get the start in game seven for the Sharks and will look to bounce back from the game six loss in which he allowed four goals on only 26 shots - leaving him with a .846 save percentage for the game. Across 13 playoff games, Jones has a goals against average of 2.78 and a save percentage of .908.The 28-year-old has one assist as well.

Playoff Performers

Although held pointless in game six, Colorado forward Nathan MacKinnon finds himself second overall in the playoff scoring race with 13 points - six goals and seven assists. Across 11 games, MacKinnon is a minus-5, with a 1.18 points-per-game average. He has two power play goals and six power play points on top of three game-winning goals - one of which was in overtime. He has 54 shots.

Just ahead of MacKinnon in the playoff scoring race, in first place, is San Jose’s Logan Couture. Couture had one assist in game six and has 14 points total - nine goals and five assists. Over 13 games played, Couture is a plus-3 with 46 shots and a 19.6 shooting percentage. He has three power play goals, five power play points, and one game-winning goal.

Questions to answer

Although both goalies left much to be desired after their game six performances, it’s been Martin Jones who has been scrutinized for inconsistency throughout these playoffs. Can the young goalie, who will have played the most minutes once the game seven puck drops, bounce back and help the Sharks see round three?

Should game seven reach overtime, can Colorado stay as composed as they have in the past and remain undefeated in overtime?

Listed as a game-time decision, will San Jose leader Joe Pavelski be cleared in time for the start of game seven or will it be another sideline seat for the captain?
