The Jaguars head up to MetLife Stadium as winners of four of their last six games and fresh off a 40-34 overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence has been on fire and leads the league in multiple categories, including passer rating, during that stretch.
The Jets, meanwhile, are capitulating right before the country’s eyes. They started the year off drastically exceeding expectations but have now fallen in four of their last five and each of their last three. Their prospects of turning it around don’t seem great, either, as maligned second-year quarterback Zach Wilson is back under center.
Wilson was criticized by his head coach for underperforming earlier in the year and was ultimately benched for backup Mike White. Unfortunately, White was dealt a rib injury recently and is out indefinitely, which freed up Wilson to return to the lineup last weekend.
Wilson only managed a 37.5 QBR in his return to the action and now has to go against a Jacksonville defense that, although it gives up a lot of points, has all of the confidence in the world after forcing a game-winning pick-six in overtime.
Both teams desperately need wins to bolster their playoff stance. The Jags trailed the Tennessee Titans by a game in the AFC South race, while the Jets are a game behind the Miami Dolphins for the seven seed in the AFC Wild Card.
The game will kick off Thursday at 8:15 p.m. ET in MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Jaguars are favored by 1.5 points despite being on the road.
