Alberta’s newly launched gaming market is bringing a taste of the Las Vegas Strip straight to Wild Rose Country. As operators compete to be recognized among the best Alberta online casinos, BetMGM is distinguishing itself by offering live dealer games streamed directly from the casino floors of two iconic Nevada resorts: MGM Grand and Bellagio.

BetMGM Brings Las Vegas Floor to Alberta

Live Dealer Games Direct from the Strip

Beginning August 20th, MGM Resorts and its technology partner Playtech began broadcasting blackjack, roulette, and baccarat from custom live-dealer studios located directly on the MGM Grand floor.

Even more enticing for Canadian players is the introduction of Dual Play Games. This technology enables online users in Alberta to place wagers alongside physical guests seated at table games inside the world-famous Bellagio - without ever leaving the province.

While innovative, this is not MGM's first effort to export Vegas magic to international destinations:

  • 2024 Expansion: MGM and Playtech previously launched similar broadcasts from the Bellagio and MGM Grand to players in the UK and other overseas markets.

  • 24/7 Operations: The glass-walled studio at MGM Grand now runs 24/7 and is directly visible to physical guests walking the casino floor.

  • Canadian Availability: While players in Ontario have enjoyed access to these streams for some time, this rollout solidifies BetMGM's position among the best online casinos in Canada. Conversely, many US jurisdictions require localized live-dealer studios, restricting American players from accessing these Nevada streams on mobile devices.

The Regulatory Quirk: Betting from Banff vs. Betting in Vegas

This setup creates one of the stranger quirks in current North American gaming regulation:

  • In Alberta: A player visiting Banff National Park can take out a phone at a mountain lodge and legally wager on a live blackjack table inside MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

  • In Nevada: A player having lunch 1,800 miles away at Wolfgang Puck inside MGM Grand can look through the studio glass at the exact same table, but cannot legally place an online bet on it.

Despite its "Sin City" reputation, Nevada has not legalized online casino gaming (iGaming) for its residents. However, if that same Vegas visitor walks over to the Bellagio and sits down at a physical Dual Play table, they can play side-by-side with their online Canadian counterpart.

Unlocking the Value of Existing Casino Real Estate

For MGM, the appeal extends far beyond giving Canadians a way to spin a roulette wheel without buying a plane ticket.

A traditional brick-and-mortar table game can only accommodate a handful of physical players. A Dual Play table, by contrast, can accept wagers from dozens—or even hundreds—of remote players simultaneously.

Instead of building separate off-site studios or hiring additional remote staff, MGM can leverage its existing, highly sought-after inventory:

  1. Monetizing Foot Traffic: Transforming busy, well-run physical tables into global digital assets.

  2. Iconic Backdrops: Leveraging the world-famous Bellagio and MGM Grand brands rather than generic studio sets.

  3. Global Appeal: Attracting players from the prairies of Alberta to a flat in Stevenage, UK.

The Omnichannel Ecosystem: From Online Play to Real-World Rewards

BetMGM has leaned heavily on its Las Vegas heritage to differentiate itself in an increasingly crowded global iGaming market. Beyond offering what many consider to feature the best online casino bonus in Canada through its player incentives, the real long-term power lies in the MGM Rewards ecosystem.

Online players earn tier credits that can be redeemed for real-world experiences:

  • A weekend stay at the Bellagio

  • Dinner at Wolfgang Puck inside MGM Grand

  • Trips to sister properties like Borgata in Atlantic City or the upcoming MGM Osaka in Japan

For an industry that has spent years discussing the promise of "omnichannel gaming," this integration represents one of the clearest real-world case studies in the market today.
