Are Mystery Box Sites Legal?
Mystery Box sites take players from most of the US. Most states have no quarrel with these sites, and each operator decides for itself which ones to shut out. Those decisions vary from site to site.
Cases.gg says it is unavailable in Idaho, Montana, Michigan, Nevada, and Washington. Clash.gg names the same five in its Terms, but its Official Sweeps Rules leave Montana out. BigBux excludes Washington and nothing else.
New York’s Attorney General sued Valve in February 2026, arguing that paying to open a Counter-Strike 2 case is gambling because the odds determine the prize, and the prize sells for cash afterwards. Mystery box sites work on those same two parts. Valve is the only defendant, and the complaint names none of the sites on this page.
All three ranked sites set the age at 18+, or the age of majority where you live, whichever is higher.

How We Rate Mystery Box Sites
A mystery box site gives nothing away from its homepage. You have to buy credits, open enough boxes to see the odds in action, and then try to cash out, which is where these sites show their character. Every score on this page comes from doing that for at least a week per site, on a $1,000 testing budget.
The scoring categories are WSN’s usual ones, covering promotions, entertainment, payments and redemption, support, and user experience. Four more checks are specific to box sites.
Odds disclosure. We check that per-item odds appear before purchase and that a provably fair verifier exists to test them against. Cases.gg publishes to 0.001%, Clash.gg to 0.005%.
Sell-back basis. We find out whether the percentage comes off the operator’s assessed price or off the price you paid, and what currency it pays in.
Cash-out route. We follow the methods, minimums, and any frequency limits until the money leaves the account.
Availability at signup. We test which excluded-state list the operator enforces, since the terms page and the official sweeps rules often disagree.
See our How We Rate page for the full scoring breakdown.
Why You Should Trust Us
This page combines operators’ published terms and stated item values with hands-on testing. WSN reviewers register like anyone else, spend a real testing budget, open boxes, ask support the awkward questions, and then write down what happened, failed Steam trades and month-long shipping waits included.
Where we earn a commission, we say so. Review scores follow WSN’s published BetEdge methodology. Featured placement affects list order, as disclosed above, but is separate from those scores.
The other hubs chasing this topic rank the same three sites without printing a single odds figure, sell-back basis, or house edge between them. All three are on this page, with their sources listed.
Our Verdict on the Best Mystery Box Sites
Cases.gg is my favorite mystery box site right now. It combines a large box catalog with physical-prize delivery and responsive support, making it my pick for readers who want to keep their prizes. The cost of admission is a 10% house edge and a playthrough that covers your deposit, your balance, and every item you win.
Clash.gg is the alternative for CS2 players who want a skin-focused catalog and the option to fund openings with existing skins. Winnings convert to Gems, which you can redeem for skins in the withdrawal shop or as cryptocurrency. The stated house edge and playthrough restrictions still apply.
BigBux is for collectors with patience. You get one balance, no coin system to learn, and physical goods at the end, as long as you can live with a delivery window of up to 60 days and an import fee waiting at your door.

Responsible Gameplay
Paid box and pack openings are games of chance. Decide what you are willing to spend before you open anything, and count that money as entertainment, because nothing in a box appreciates on your behalf.
Cases.gg has a Vault that locks your funds for anything from 10 minutes to a day, plus self-exclusion you can set for up to 90 days. Clash.gg gives you both tools, though its Vault tops out at 7 days.
BigBux has neither. It has no responsible gaming page, no spending limits, and no self-exclusion, which is a serious omission for a site that takes money for chance-based play.
If opening boxes stops being fun, 1-800-GAMBLER is free and answers around the clock.
