Closer Look at the Best Online Casino Sites in New York

Since legal online casinos are not available in New York, here are our top recommended sweepstakes casino sites for you to check out.

1. Stake.us

Stake.us Best New York Casino

It’s pretty safe to say that Stake.us is the best sweepstakes casino on the NY market. On top of its excellent welcome promo you'll receive, Stake.us is known for offering other promotions, including Slot Battles, Gold Coin Races, drops, and more.

Here, you can play many games, including slots, table games, and scratchers. Most sweepstakes casinos only have a few table games, but Stake.us has at least one of each popular type, such as HiLo, Roulette, Video Poker, Baccarat, and more.

On the side of the page, you’ll see a chat box allowing you to socialize with other players.

2. Fortune Coins

Fortune Coins Best New York Casino

When I signed up for Fortune Coins account I received a generous welcome package that helped me kick off my gameplay. They do also offer gold coin packages, that comes with a first time purchase discount, but I would suggest getting it only when you use up your welcome bonus and are absolutely sure that this is a casino for you. I personally love table games and Fortune Coins have them, so choice waw easy for me.

When it comes to user interface design it's outstanding and you can find everything with relative ease. At the top, you can toggle between the currencies, and as you go down, you’ll see a menu for all the different game types. Here, slots run the game library, but other games such as Keno, Roulette, and War are available.

3. High 5 Casino

Best New York Casino High 5

High 5 Casino offers players an extensive gaming library with 1,180 titles, surpassing the selection of most other New York casinos.

The welcome bonus here provides players with three currencies: Sweeps Cash, Gold Coins, and Diamonds. The Diamonds unlock game boosts that can give you more currencies.

You can find more about Diamonds in our full review of High 5 Casino.

4. Sweeptastic

Best New York Casino Sweeptastic

Sweeptastic game library consists mainly of slots, with a few table games, such as Blackjack and Baccarat. If you are a slot fan, you'll like Sweeptastic.

The user interface design is the standout feature for me, as there are few menus to traverse and everything is seen right away on the homepage.

The left side of the page has a menu to get coins, redeem them, and swap between currencies. This is an excellent site for new players to checkout sweepstakes casinos, in general.

Read our full Sweeptastic Casino review for more information.

5. Wow Vegas

Best New York Casino Wow Vegas

Sweeptastic is a great casino for new players, but once you get more experience under your belt you should move over to Wow Vegas.

As a new player, you’ll receive more than enough gold and sweep coins for simply creating an account. However, numerous other promotions are also available, including refer-a-friend, email competitions, daily rewards, drawings, and much more.

Wow, Vegas is one of the few sweepstakes sites to offer a Loyalty Program. Known as Star System VIP, this program has six tiers offering prizes such as daily drops, heightened log-in rewards, customer support, and more.

Check out our Wow Vegas review for more info.

6. Pulsz Casino

Best New York Casino Pulsz

If you’re looking to play Slots, Pulsz Casino has you covered with a library of slots that feel like a never-ending scroll down the page. Texas Hold ‘Em and Blackjack are available, but this is a slot platform through and through.

The welcome bonus is pretty good. The other promotions include reduced prices on coins packages, which really offer a lot of value, but there are also free spins, and giveaways available.

You can get more details in our full Pulsz casino review.

7. Funrize Casino

Best New York Casino Funrize

Funrize Casino is a sweepstakes site with a similar feel to Sweeptastic and Stake.us, especially with its user interface. There are plenty of slot games here that you can enjoy with your welcome bonus.

You can also download a mobile app directly from the Google Play Store for Funrize, making it even more compatible for Android users.

On the site, you can see a live feed of real-time winners, which is encouraging as it gives you the feeling that you can win too.

Check out our detailed Funrize Casino review.

8. Betrivers.net

BetRivers.net Casino

BetRivers.net is a social/sweepstakes site that’s a branch of BetRivers, which is also a real-money site for sports betting and casino play.

BetRivers.net offers a diverse game library, which not only includes table games and slots but live dealer games as well. The games are offered by premium developers like Pragmatic Play, Greentube, Everi, Konami, and more. You can enjoy all of these titles with the $20 Daily Virtual Credits welcome bonus and, if you’re into it, can go over to their sportsbooks which is also a sweepstakes platform.

You can find more details in our BetRivers.net review.

9. TaoFortune

TaoFortune Sweepstake Casino

TaoFortune has a live feed like Funrize that shows live winners, which is a nice touch for prospective players. In addition to the TaoFortune welcome bonus, you can access the Magic Box daily, which offers up to 275,000 Tao Coins and 500 Secret Coins per game. Three different boxes become available daily.

Another fun feature is Quests, which you can complete to earn Tao Coins. These include winning a certain amount of coins, 10x wins, opening a Magic Box, and more.

How We Rated the Top New York Online Casino Sites

With so many options to choose from, picking a New York online casino to sign up with can be overwhelming. That’s why we have done all the heavy lifting for you in this guide. Here are the 6 key factors that we look at when reviewing online casinos in NY.

1. Promotions and Bonuses

Promotions and bonuses are critical components of sweepstakes casinos in New York. These not only allow you to dive in and play right away, but they also assist in sustaining your gameplay without making purchases.

On top of the welcome bonus, we look for sites that offer other promotions to spice up the day-to-day gameplay, such as tournaments, daily drops, races, and more.

2. Game Options

With sweepstakes casinos, you’re going to find slots mostly. Slots are the go-to game type found at these sites, which is OK, but we do look for platforms that offer more. Other games could include table games, bingo, keno, or live dealer games.

In addition to the variety and quantity of games, we examine the developers who created the games. From our top list above, we can confirm that the best of the best were used. When you become more familiar with specific developers, you’ll notice that games running smoothly and without bugs make for a satisfying experience.

3. Payment Methods

There might come a time when you want to make a currency package purchase, and having multiple ways to do so is helpful. Most sites only accept debit/credit cards, which is fine, but we give some bonus points to those that offer other methods, like PayPal and Venmo, and additional points if said sweepstakes accepts crypto.

As for redemption methods, you’ll only ever find online banking or gift cards. Still, we look to see if other options are available.

4. Customer Support

Whenever you play games online, access to viable customer support is vital to a healthy experience. The methods we commonly find with Sweepstakes Casinos are FAQ, Live Chat, and Email.

The FAQ shows how many run-of-the-mill questions you can answer just by researching here. Next, we engage with the live chat (if available) to test the speed of service and product knowledge.

5. Safety & Security

The sites we’ve recommended are incredibly safe and secure to play at. Still, for new sites, we certainly look into this quite closely. We look for sites that have ties to traditional New York online casinos, but we also research them to see if they’re using competent encryption software to keep customer data safe.

6. User Experience

Sure, games, promotions, and bonuses make these sites fun, but having a user interface design that streamlines the entire process is unmatched. As you’ll see in our overviews above, we praise sites that make navigating these sites easy, especially for new players. As a player, your goal is to log onto a site and start playing—there’s no need to learn how to find stuff on the site.

Is Online Gambling Legal in New York?

Online casino play gambling is not yet legalized. There have been recent efforts to bring it to the state, including separate bills for both online casino play and poker, but they didn’t make the annual budget. With that, online casino play will have to wait until 2025 at least.

That said, online sports betting and sweepstakes casinos are legal. Online sports betting has been legal since January 2022, and retail sports betting was legal three years before.

Sweepstakes casinos follow a different set of laws than real-money online casinos, so these are permitted in mostly every state in the United States.

How Do Sweepstake Casinos Work?

When you log onto a sweepstakes casino, you’ll find they resemble the many real-money online casinos in the six legal states.

But what’s the difference? Why are these allowed, but real-money casinos aren’t?

Sweepstakes casinos don’t use real money for you to play with them. Instead, you have two virtual currencies—Gold Coins and Sweeps Cash. The numerous sweepstakes casinos have varying names, but those are the two types. All sites will have the option to toggle between the two.

Gold Coins are used only for fun. Nothing more, nothing less.

However, Sweeps Cash can be used to exchange for real money or gift cards, depending on the site.

You generate these currencies through the welcome offer, promotions, daily login rewards, or microtransaction purchases if you choose to do so.

At most sites, you need 50 Sweeps Cash to redeem a prize, and they usally carry a 1:1 value.

So, while you can purchase Gold Coins with real money, Sweep Coins can only be given as a gift. Options and daily promotions are available to ensure you never actually have to pay for Gold Coins. This creates a legal difference between traditional online casinos and these sweepstakes sites.

How to Get Started Playing Sweepstakes Casinos in New York

Starting to play at New York sweepstakes casinos is easy. Below, we’ll go over how to get started playing in no time by following these simple steps:

  1. Find the sweepstakes site you might be interested in playing at.

  2. Check out the reviews to find the best sweepstake casino no-deposit bonus, user interface design, games, and more.

  3. Once you’ve chosen a site, create an account. Many sites will allow you to link your Facebook account. The account creation process takes mere minutes to complete.

  4. After you’ve completed the registration process, you’ll likely receive a welcome bonus involving the Gold Coins and Sweeps Cash. Some sites require you to confirm your email address first.

  5. When everything is all set, and you have the Gold Coins and Sweeps Cash loaded into your wallet, it’s time to start playing.

  6. Toggle between which currency you want to use and find the games you want to play.

  7. When you reach the minimum threshold for Sweeps Cash conversion, you can convert it to real money.

When Will New York Legalize Real Money Online Casinos?

At the beginning of 2023, bills were introduced that promoted the expansion of iGaming in the state, including online casino and poker play.

On January 17, Assemblyman Gary J. Pretlow filed A01380, a bill for online poker. A couple of weeks later, the DraftKings and FanDuel CEOs lobbied for iGaming legislation to come to New York. Then, a couple of weeks after that, on February 15, Senator Joseph Addabbo proposed S4856, a bill to legalize online slots, table games, and live dealer games.

That same day, the AGA reported that New York represented 13.7% of the market share in sports betting ($1.37 billion Gross Gaming Revenue). While these are sports betting figures, it does illustrate New Yorkers’ penchant for iGaming, which could trickle down to online casino play.

However, on March 15, it was discovered that iGaming legislation didn’t make the annual budget, so it was off the table for 2023.

Moving forward, a 2025 launch seems more than doable. Nearby, New Jersey and Pennsylvania both have legal online gambling, and New York would benefit significantly from the tax income it would offer.

Expect more of a push for iGaming in 2025 in The Empire State.

What Online Casinos to Expect in New York?

While we might be a year or so away from online casino play officially coming to New York, it’s as good a time to speculate what sites we could see launch.

The easiest way to predict which online casinos will launch is to look at the roster of online sportsbooks with an online casino platform in other states.

Of the online sportsbooks in the state that also have an online casino, these include BetRivers, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, PointsBet, and WynnBET.

FanDuel and DraftKings’ CEOs have already been vocal in lobbying for it, so it’s safe to say they’d both launch when it becomes available.

Here’s some information about a few of these sites:

  • DraftKings Casino: Comes equipped with a game library of more than 1,000 titles, including numerous exclusive options. The welcome bonus is a 100% deposit match worth $2,000.

  • FanDuel Casino: It also has numerous titles but comes with two vital promotions. First, the welcome bonus will pay back up to $1,000 in net losses after the first 24 hours of play. Second, the Reward Machine is a daily wheel you can spin with a chance to win up to $2,000 in bonus funds.

  • BetRivers Casino: In addition to a sweepstakes platform, BetRivers has a real-money online casino. The welcome bonus here is a 100% deposit match worth up to $250 and offers games from top casino game developers such as IGT, NetEnt, AGS, and more.

New York Online Casino Bonus Codes

You’ll find numerous offers at online sweepstakes casinos that may or may not be available when you check them out. The list below consists of offers that we’ve seen during our research.

Purchase Bonus

At online sweepstakes casinos, you never make “deposits,” per se. Instead, you can make optional coin package purchases to replenish your account to continue playing or wait for another bonus.

With these bonuses, you can purchase a combination of the free-to-play currency and Sweeps Cash equivalent for a reduced rate.

Sign-Up Bonus

At most online sweepstakes casinos, you’ll receive a package of coins and Sweeps Cash after signing up. This is the most common type of New York casino bonus you can find, but the amount can vary drastically from casino to casino.

Log In Bonus

Sweepstakes casinos often offer players daily login bonuses, typically for gold coins, which help keep you engaged with the games in this “free” capacity.

Free Spins

Like free spins at a traditional real-money casino, you might find opportunities to receive a specific number of free spins to use on a game. The number of these free spins can vary.

VIP Programs

Some Sweepstakes casinos offer VIP Programs that give you additional perks and benefits for playing on the site. For example, Wow Vegas offers players Star System VIP. This consists of six tiers where you earn customer support, monthly bonuses, daily login rewards, personal account hosts, and more.

What Casino Apps Are Available in New York?

Regarding Sweepstakes Casinos, most don’t have dedicated New York online casino apps you can download from the Apple App or Google Play Store. However, a few do, enhancing the gaming experience beyond playing on the mobile web browser.

Sites like High 5 Casino have one that is available in these stores.

However, other sites like Sweeptastic, Global Poker, and Stake.Us have a mechanic available to create an icon on your home screen that makes an instant link to the mobile web browser site.

Popular Casino Games to Expect in New York

What kind of casino games can New Yorkers look forward to playing when legal casino gambling becomes available?

Slots

Slots are the most accessible game at casinos, both online and at retail sites. There’s no strategy to develop in using these; only wagering a certain amount, spinning the wheel, and hoping for a win.

Now, there are some aspects you can control in terms of investigating if a game has bonus rounds, such as free spins, Return to Player Percentage, and several paylines.

Blackjack

There are numerous variations of online blackjack, but the game’s core is to get as close to or land on 21 while competing against the dealer. Each card has a value that reflects the number on it. Jack, Queen, and King count as 10, and the Ace is 1 or 11.

During a game, you’ll have decisions to make.

  • Hit: Ask for another card that will increase the total of your hand.

  • Stand: Refuse more cards to increase your hand total.

  • Double Down: Double your wager and receive another card. This is for hands with totals of 9, 10, or 11.

  • Split: For example, if you have two 8s, you can split these into two hands and place an additional wager on the new hand.

There are a lot of nuances to the game, but in the end, you’ll want to have a hand with a value of 21.

Roulette

With Roulette, the goal is to predict the outcome of where the wheel lands based on the wager made. Numerous types of bets are broken down into two categories—inside and outside.

These wagers include picking an individual number, red, black, high, low, or in dozens. The types of bets can depend on the variant you’re playing.

Baccarat

Baccarat is another table game that requires cards and the values of each card. Here, three outcomes are: The Player wins, Banker wins, and a tie.

The values of each card are as follows:

  • Numbered Cards: The number on the card.

  • Jack, Queen, King, and 10: Zero value.

  • Aces: Valued at 1.

These are the different types of bets:

  • Player: Betting that the Player will have a hand value closer to 9 than the Banker. Pays 1 to 1.

  • Banker: Betting the Banker will have a hand value closer to 9 than the Player. Pays 1 to 1 minus commission.

  • Tie: Betting the Player and Banker have the same hand value. Pays 8 to 1 or 9 to 1.

Craps

Craps is a dice-based where you’ll wager based on the roll’s outcome. There are numerous types of wagers here, with the most well-known being pass line, don’t pass, come, and don’t come. Pass Line bets it’s one of the more common ones where players win if the first roll of the new round results in a 7 or 11. Two dice are six-sided. The bet loses if the first roll is a 2, 3, or 12. If the result is somewhere between those results, that number is established as the “point,” which will be a win for you if it’s rolled again before seven hits.

The other popular wager, a Don’t Pass Bet, is essentially the opposite, with the only difference being that if a 12 is rolled, it’s a tie.

Video Poker

Video poker combines traditional poker and slots. After selecting what game to play and what bet to place, the cards will be dealt to you, and you’ll choose what cards to keep and discard. You’ll then evaluate your hand and collect your winnings should you win.

It’s a streamlined process.

Live Dealer Games

Live dealer games consist of table games that offer as close to an in-person experience without being on-site. Instead, you’ll be brought into a live lobby to interact with a real host and play against other online players.

History of Online Gambling in New York

In New York, brick-and-mortar casinos are fully legal, but online casinos aren't.

Retail casinos first started popping up in the state following the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, getting passed in 1988. The retail casino floodgates were officially opened as three tribal operations opened seven brick-and-mortar sites.

Today, multiple decades later, you can play casino games at more than two dozen sites. These qualify as tribal casinos, commercial, and racinos. Racinos are a combination of horse racing betting and casino games.

As for online casinos, there has been legislative action on this front, including two bill proposals in January 2023 in February 2023. In January, Assemblyman Gary J. Pretlow filed A01380 for online poker play. Sen. Joseph P. Addabbo proposed S4856, iGaming legislation to legalize online slots, table games, and live dealer games in February. In the end iGaming legislation didn’t make the annual budget.

In 2024, Sen. Joseph P. Addabbo continued pushing for legalization of online casino in New York with his new bill S9226 in which online poker would be define as a game of skill. This bill would allow state to issue 10 online licenses, with each license costing ten million dollars and 15% of their gross revenue from interactive poker. This bill has meat stern opposition from NYC casino workers who accused Sen. Joseph P. Addabbo of trying to take away their jobs.

If bill S9226 gains traction we can expect online casinos to become legal at earlier 2025, but more realistically 2026.

When it comes to online sports betting, NY state already crossed that bridge by legalizing in January 2022. Right now, there are 9 online sportsbooks operating there, which is quite remarkable considering it also has the highest online tax rate at 51%.

Casinos to Avoid in New York

Players can technically access offshore online casinos such as Bovada, BetOnline, BetUS, and more in New York and every other state in the United States.

While these may offer appealing welcome bonuses and other promotions, you have to consider this—these sites aren't licensed, regulated, or protected by any US law. Meaning there’s a chance you could never receive your welcome bonus, promotions, or even the money that you won.

We strongly advise against using these "offshore casinos" because they aren't licensed or regulated by US authorities. It's best to stick to online casinos that are regulated and licensed in USA.
