Arizona Regulator Approves Circa Sports For Online License

A new player is preparing to enter Arizona’s sports betting market. 

The Copper State’s Department of Gaming (DOG) has officially approved Circa Sports’ application for a mobile betting license. The Las Vegas-based operator gained market access after partnering with the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe. 

“With the allocation, the operator will be approved to offer sports betting and event wagering in Arizona, a press release from the DOG reads. “The Department will work with the licensee on next steps for the operational launch. Since the inception of legal sports betting and event wagering in Arizona in 2021, people have wagered $35.3 billion, generating approximately $190.6 million in event wagering privilege fees for the state.”

Circa will be the thirteenth mobile sportsbook to be available in the state.

Arizona will be the seventh state where Circa will be available, joining the following:

• Colorado

• Illinois

• Iowa

• Kentucky

• Missouri

• Nevada

While the approval paves the way for Circa to launch, it is not expected to go live until 2027.

Circa Finds Success With High Rollers

The biggest difference between Circa Sports and the rest of the sports betting industry is the treatment of betting sharps and high-rollers. 

Most US sportsbooks actively avoid enticing these types of bettors. They view winning bettors as bad for business, leading many operators to limit them. This mostly affects sharps, but has also been applied to average bettors who get on hot streaks.

Regulators have pushed for sportsbooks to share information on how and when they limit bettors, but have received little cooperation. Operators insist that sharing their practices would expose confidential information to rivals, leading them to refuse requests for more information.

By contrast, Circa Sports is actively recruiting these winning bettors. Instead of offering promos and bonuses that attract casual bettors, they provide more freedom for high-rollers and sharps. This results in larger wagers, allowing the operator to remain competitive in a market dominated by FanDuel and DraftKings.
