CF Atlas vs Club America Prediction

Atlas FC vs. Club America Predictions

Atlas have registered just two wins in their last 17 Liga MX games, and both wins have come at home. The first came against Juarez towards the end of January, and the second was against Santos Laguna at the start of February. Of the other seven games this season, Atlas have drawn three and lost four. The club nabbed a point against Tijuana, Pumas, and Tigres and dropped all points against Necaxa, Pachuca, Mazatlan, and Leon. Now facing Club America, Atlas will be the underdogs.

Club America won a record-extending 14th Liga MX title last year. They are now two titles clear of their fiercest rivals, Chivas Guadalajara. However, the hunger for another title still persists, and the club will be eager to defend its crown this season. Club America have won five, drawn three, and lost one of their nine league games so far. The solitary loss came against a high-flying Pachuca side before the defending champions were held to an unexpected 2-2 draw against Mazatlan over a week ago. However, Club America returned to winning ways against Cruz Azul.

Considering all aspects of this fixture, it is safe to say that Club America are favorites to win. Victory is crucial because the next few games for the defending champions will be quite challenging. On the other hand, Atlas will be content with a draw and will not be ambitious to go for the jugular in this encounter.

Previous Meetings

Since 2010, these two clubs have met 27 times in Liga MX. Club America have the better record with 13 wins under their belt, while Atlas have emerged victorious on seven occasions. The other seven encounters have ended in stalemates. Three of those draws have come in the last three league encounters between Club America and Atlas.

If Club America win, they will end a four-game winless streak against Atlas. During this stint, three matches have ended in draws, and Atlas have won one during the Clausura 2022 season. Club America’s last win over Atlas in the league came in the Apertura 2021 season when they snatched all three points at Estadio Jalisco after a narrow 1-0 victory.

When these two sides clashed last season, Jordy Caicedo opened the scoring for the visitors at Estadio Azteca in the 23rd minute. Brian Rodriguez restored parity in the 41st minute, and the scoreline remained unchanged till the full-time whistle. The defending champions dominated the match, but the Atlas defense stood firm to nab a vital point.

Atlas Could Be Staring at Two Defeats on the Bounce at Home

Atlas have won just four out of their last 30 away games in Liga MX. However, the upcoming match is at home, where the club has lost just one out of their last five games this season. They have won two and drawn as many. The loss count is set to touch two games after the next one.

Their only home loss of the season came recently against Leon. It was a winnable game, but a 94th-minute penalty changed the outcome as Federico Vinas scored the winner from the spot to guide the visitors to glory despite being a man down for almost the entire game.

Primary Striker’s Return Could Provide Much-Needed Boost

Eduardo Aguirre scored four goals in his first five appearances for Atlas before he missed three games due to an injury.

The prolific striker returned to the pitch in the match against Tigres but could not get on the scoresheet. Aguirre will be eying his fifth goal of the season against Club America.

The Defensive Pair Needs to Be More Vigilant

Martin Hugo Nervo and Anderson Santamaria will be training hard in preparation to face a barrage of attacks from the Club America strikers.

The two primary center-backs of Atlas did well in the last match to keep the Tigres attack at bay, but they still conceded a goal.

A String of Tough Fixtures Coming Up for Club America

Club America will focus on Atlas for now and have one eye on the upcoming CONCACAF Champions Cup encounters with rivals Chivas that will sandwich a crucial league encounter with Tigres.

After facing Atlas, Club America will take on Chivas in three of the next four games. After the two-legged encounter in the Champions Cup, the defending champions will visit Estadio Akron to play their arch-rivals in the league’s 12th round.

Veteran Striker Bounces Back

Henry Martin fired blanks in his first four appearances this season. The 31-year-old scored eight goals and nabbed five assists in 16 games last season.

Concerns rose after the striker misfired in the first four appearances as a substitute. Martin bagged a brace at his first start of the season against Mazatlan. The striker pocketed an assist in the game against Cruz Azul.

Midfielder Could Return to the Team

Richard Sanchez has missed the last five games across all competitions for Club America due to an injury. However, the midfielder is back in training and is eager to return to the lineup.

The Paraguayan’s return in midfield will give the defending champions a significant boost for the next match and for the upcoming fixture congestion.
