Chivas Guadalajara vs. Club America Prediction: 253rd Edition of El Super Clasico

Club America will travel to Guadalajara to take on Chivas at Stadio AKRON. These two bitter rivals will have an out-of-the-ordinary week, squaring off against each other twice in four days thanks to their midweek CONCACAF Champions Cup round of 16 fixture. This heated rivalry has been tilted in the favour of Club America in recent memory. In the previous 37 clashes in all competitions, Club America has earned 18 wins and nine draws.

Currently sitting one point back from the 2024 Clausura table, Club America extended its unbeaten streak to four games in domestic play. Last weekend saw the Mexico City-based side come away with a clean-sheet victory winning by two goals over Tigres UANL.

Meanwhile, for Chivas Guadalajara, the club is currently tumbling down the table. Currently sitting in ninth place, the past weekend saw Chivas drop points once again. In their last six affairs in all competitions, this group has only been able to fetch one victory.

Here, we will break down the betting odds and share our favourite picks for Chivas Guadalajara vs. Club America.

Chivas Guadalajara vs. Club America Betting Odds for Saturday, Mar. 16

Going into Saturday's clash, the away side are listed as the favourites at +100 to accrue three points. The draw is +245 and home underdog Chivas are +255 to pull off the upset. Since 2021, the club from the capital city has only suffered one defeat to Chivas. A shot to double our money on the away club in this fixture has a solid chance to hit considering how one-sided the Súper Clásico has become in the latest editions.

Chivas Guadalajara vs. Club America Prediction

Chivas Guadalajara

Despite the recent setbacks for Chivas, there have been a few bright spots to pick out from. One of them is winger Roberto Alvarado. In a 2-1 losing cause to Leon last weekend, the 25-year-old put on a man-of-the-match type of performance. Alvarado snapped his seven-match goalless drought bagging his 2nd in the Clausura. If Chivas wants to halt Club America’s dominance, Alvarado will have to cause issues up front pinning the opposition to sit deep to create space.

Guadalajara central midfielder Victor Guzman will also have to find the scoresheet if his club has any shot at winning at home on Saturday. Leading the band with six goals, the 29-year-old will look to dissolve his three-game goalless run in all competitions.

Club America

What makes this bunch a fantastic commodity is the goal contributions from up and down the lineup. Currently, in the Clausura, this roster has nine different players that have found the back of the net. The most notable scorers are the dynamic duo of Julian Quinones and Henry Martin who respectively lead their club with four goals each.

Club America on the defensive side of the ball deserves all the praise now also. Goalkeeper Luis Malagon is having a sweltering start to the Clausura. In 10 starts, the 27-year-old has only conceded six goals and has picked up six clean sheets. Boasting an 82.4 save percentage, if Malagon can continue his steadfast form, Chivas will be in for a long evening.

Chivas Guadalajara vs. Club America - My Pick

Time after time after the commanding play, we have witnessed from Club America in this feisty affair, all signs point towards backing the visitors in this encounter. Club America currently possesses the lowest number of goals allowed, with the very same backend unit that only conceded 14 goals in the 2023 Apertura which saw them go on their way to lift their 14th league title.

On the other hand, Chivas Guadalajara has been allergic to picking up results in El Súper Clásico. With their current form taking on one of the contending title favourites this could end disastrously on Saturday evening. Only registering two goals in their last five competitive matches, taking on a stout defence, it’s hard to see how Chivas will outscore their competitors in this intense fixture.
