Full-scale legal online gambling finally came to New Jersey in 2018, and the biggest casinos in Atlantic City wasted no time in setting up their online platforms and jostling for positions in the nascent industry.
Ocean Casino Resort is one of the most recognizable complexes on the famous boardwalk, with the waves of the Atlantic sea and the sand of the beach just meters away from the complex. And, as of July 2018, it’s been happily accepting players online from all over the Garden State.
If there’s one thing New Jersey isn’t short of, it’s online casinos and sportsbooks. We want to stay on top of all the options in the state, so we asked our experts to come up with a complete review of everything Oceans has to offer. We’re covering it all right here: games, software, bonuses, payment methods, customer support, security, and a lot more.
Let’s go.
Promotions and bonuses are a strong point of Ocean Online Casino. They really get the balance right: we’ve got a solid welcome bonus for new players, but also very regular promotions to keep existing players happy. Then there’s the rewards programme, which you’re going to love if you’re a regular at Oceans in Atlantic City.
We’re running through everything that was on offer during our Oceans review here.
Ocean’s welcome bonus is a good one, although if you’re going to extract the most value from it, it’s true you’ll also need to spend a decent amount of your own money. It’s also a multi-part offer, worth $1,025 in total.
There’s a 100% deposit bonus up for grabs based on your first deposit, up to a possible $1,000. Oceans also throw in an extra $25 registration bonus, which is a great extra bonus.

Ocean lets you spin their Fortune Wheel – which randomly awards chunks of site credit worth between $0 and $1,000 – once every 8 hours, or three times a day.
This is a great offer. It’s a perfect way to get players to return to Ocean regularly, while at the same time offering them a tangible reward. You need to have deposited at least $50 in the last week to qualify to spin the wheel, which is fair enough in our opinion. You also have 24 hours to clear the wagering requirements on the credits, but it’s only 1x so that’s fine by us.
Any time you make a deposit and place bets worth $20, you’ll be given 15 free spins as a bonus. Ocean also often hands out free spins with no deposit required, to promote a new game for example.
During our review, there were 5 free spins up for grabs on Secret of the Stones.
Ocean has a nice and simple referral offer. You can invite friends to join via their email address, and if they sign up with your link and make a deposit, you’ll both get $10 in bonus cash.
Any time you gamble real money, either online or at Oceans in Atlantic City, you’ll receive Ocean Rewards Tier Points. Your points can be used to unlock lots of benefits at the physical casino, from free parking to free meals.
Unlike some online casino VIP programs, you aren’t automatically registered when you create an account. Instead, you’ll first have to sign up to the Ocean Rewards Club and then you’ll need to link your Rewards Club Card to their OceanOnlineCasino.com account.
The history of the brick-and-mortar Ocean Online Casino has been somewhat turbulent.
The resort originally launched as Revel Casino Hotel Atlantic City in 2012, but due to on-running financial hardship it closed just two years later in 2014. A year later the property was sold to Polo North Country Club, owned by Glenn Straub.
Planned refurbishments were marred by disputes with local energy providers and internal issues, as the casino struggled to reopen. Ultimately Straub never managed to launch his project, instead selling the resort to AC Ocean Walk, owned by Bruce Deifik, who renamed the casino Ocean Resort Casino.
Ocean officially opened in June 2018, located at the property’s original address of 500 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ. At the same time, Deifik was planning to build out the online wing of the new resort. Later the same year, Oceans launched its online casino platform (powered by GAN) and a sportsbook (powered by William Hill).
The gaming menu at Ocean online casino is good, although probably just behind the absolute deepest online casinos in New Jersey. In total there are around 400 games on the menu, an impressive selection. The variety is good, although there are also a couple of types of games missing. We’re covering everything in this section.
As always, slots make up the majority of games here. They are powered by a selection of different software providers, including top-of-the-line companies like NetEnt and IGT. The list includes a tab for brand new games, but there is also a healthy sprinkling of classics like Starburst and the Dead or Alive series. There are also lots of TV and movie-inspired slots if they’re your thing.
We like the way the menu is organized too. You can sort the list of games in a variety of ways, like alphabetically or by the number of pay lines. There’s also a separate section for Jackpot slots, of which there were 13 during our review. Overall, we’re big fans of the variety of slots here.
While there are some interesting options here, table games is an area that Ocean could improve.
First the good: there are multiple versions of virtual roulette and blackjack. The poker selection is also good, with both Ultimate Texas Hold’em and a few different types of video poker. But – excluding live table games, which we’ll come to – that’s more or less it.
On the downside, Ocean is missing popular games like craps, baccarat, keno, sic bo and plenty more besides. We’d love to see them added.
Oceans has a grand total of two scratch games on the menu: Merlin’s Millions and Medusa.
In contrast to the smaller than average selection of table games, the live options at Oceans are great. There are 15 unique live games in total, above average for NJ casinos, and all are powered by Evolution – which provides consistently excellent live table software.
Ocean has three types of blackjack available. First is the classic version of the game, with 7 seats available to play against the dealer. Just like with all Evolution games, you can chat with your fellow players and the dealer via the chatbox.
If no seats are free, or you prefer lower betting limits, you check out Infinite Blackjack. With this game, unlimited people can play at the same time. Everyone gets the same starting hand but you can play it however you want.
There’s also First Person Blackjack, which is technically a virtual RNG game rather than a table game, but is still in the live dealer menu. It’s basically a graphically enhanced, 3D version of the virtual game.
Ocean also has a variety of live roulette options. There’s the classic American Roulette version, plus an auto-version that proceeds without a real dealer.
Then there’s lightning roulette, where random numbers are chosen at the start of each spin to receive a multiplier. It’s a fun selection.
As well as the blackjack and roulette options, Ocean has a great selection of other games including live baccarat, live three card poker and live dragon tiger.
There’s also Dream Catcher, which feels more like your own personal gameshow than something you’d find in a casino.
Overall, we’re very impressed with the variety in the live casino at Ocean.
For now, Ocean’s online casino platform doesn’t include an integrated online sportsbook. You can bet on sports in person at the casino, however.
Ocean has mobile apps available for download on both iOS and Android phones, which give you access to more or less all the same games as the desktop site. There’s also a separate app for the in-person casino, which is useful to download as well if you intend to cash in some of your Rewards Tier Points.
The casino app is pretty good but does have a few kinks to be ironed out. The loading screens can be a little frustrating for example. We do like the consistency of the way the gaming menu is organized, however, in a similar way to the desktop site.
The app is currently rated at 3.5/5 on the Google Play Store after more than 10,000 downloads, which feels about right. It’s good, but it’s a little behind the best apps in NJ – like Harrah’s for instance, which has a rating of 4.5/5.
As we’ve mentioned, New Jersey is not short of options when it comes to online casinos. Check out the table below to see how Ocean compares to some of its competitors.

We’re giving Ocean a good score for its range of payment methods. We’re happy that a good variety of payment technologies are available, and they all worked perfectly during our review.
Deposits come with a $10 minimum and are processed instantly. There is no maximum limit on deposits, although Ocean advises to check with the payment provider.
In terms of improvements, we’d like to see Ocean add PayPal or another e-wallet option. It’s definitely the biggest thing missing from the banking experience, and most US online casinos include it as an option.
When it comes time to withdraw your winnings, speed and simplicity are the top two things we always look for. We’re happy to report that Ocean is beating most of its competitors in this regard.
All withdrawal requests are subject to an internal review period before they are processed. We don’t like this, but it’s industry standard. The good news is that Ocean’s takes just 24-48 hours – certainly faster than many casinos. With Party Casino for example, this period lasts up to 5 days.
After the internal review, your money is processed at different speeds depending on the technology. Play+ Card cashouts appear immediately, but ACH Transfers can take another 3-5 days.
This is another reason we’d love to see PayPal, since it allows for very fast cashouts.
Customer Support at Ocean is good in some ways but could use some work in others.
Let’s start with the negatives. The FAQs in the help section are pretty badly understocked. In fact, there were just nine questions/articles in total when we did our review. We love to see these sections overflowing with articles, searchable by keyword, really lifting the curtain on how the site works.
Instead, we more or less immediately had to contact Ocean directly for the answers to our questions.
The great news is that the live chat support is excellent. We got perfect answers to our questions there, in just a couple of minutes. The staff were very polite and helpful.
As well as live chat, you can get email support at [email protected] or phone 1 855 740 7097 between 10 am-10 pm daily.
Our experts are very happy with Ocean from a safety and security point of view. Although it’s still quite a young enterprise when compared with some of the other gambling behemoths in Atlantic City, it’s clear that Ocean feels like it slots in beside them in terms of prestige and credibility.
Ocean’s Privacy Policy describes exactly what the casino does with your personal data, including using encryption technology to protect your account details. Most importantly, Ocean is regulated by the NJ DGE.
Ocean is licensed and regulated by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. The DGE fulfills a number of roles in regard to online gambling in the state, including making sure the games are fair, protecting users’ funds, and monitoring how the casinos use the data they collect.
Our experts have never completed a casino review without coming back with a few areas that they think could be improved. Here’s where Ocean falls down a little, and what they can do about it.
The gaming menu is generally very good, but it’s clear that table games are the weak link. There are a lot of fairly standard virtual table games missing – craps, baccarat, bingo, keno to name a few – and it should be no trouble to get them added.
The help section is bare bones in terms of info, although the great customer support available via live chat somewhat makes up for it.
We’re a little torn on the welcome bonus. Up to $1,500 in bonus money over three deposits is impressive, but it’s just let down by that 30x turnover. It means you’re going to do a lot of gambling before you can make some real money off the bonus, and it’s especially unfriendly to small-stakes players. If it were lowered, Ocean’s welcome bonus would be truly great.
Despite those couple of potential improvements, our overall feelings about Ocean are very positive.
We love the range of on-running promotions, especially the ability to spin the Fortune Wheel three times a day. It’s clear that the casino has pushed the boat out with its bonuses, and we appreciate it.
Ocean’s live dealer selection is up there with the very best casinos, and we’re very happy with the variety of slots and software providers too.
We love that you can get withdrawals as quickly as just 24 hours if you’re using a Play+ Card. Everyone hates hanging around to access the money you already one, so this is a big advantage Ocean has over a lot of its competitors.
We’re pretty much sold in general. Check out our sign-up links above to try Ocean for yourself, and get your 100% deposit bonus.
