WNBA Player Props and Predictions: Our Top Five Plays For Opening Night

Published: May 8, 2026, 10:00 AM ET
5 min read

The 2026 WNBA season gets underway tonight with a trio of games featuring a title contender (New York Liberty), an expansion team (Toronto Tempo), and last season’s expansion team (Golden State Valkyries). With several of the WNBA’s best in action, it is going to be a great night for betting on WNBA player props.

Of course, since it is Opening Night, we have yet to see anyone play and can only base betting decisions based on how they played last season. That makes it a little more challenging to analyze player props, which is why I’ll stick with the more reliable performers on the court, good and bad.

Best WNBA Prop Bets Today 2026 05 09

Connecticut Sun vs. New York Liberty Prediction

  • Breanna Stewart, UNDER 30.5 Pts + Reb + Ast -128 at FanDuel

Last season, Stewart averaged 18.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game, putting her just below this number. But if she gets hot from the floor, she is capable of doing the bulk of the work on the scoreboard. However, she scored 20+ points in just 13 of 34 games last season.

With Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally out, it is fair to think she’ll lead the charge on the offensive end against a Connecticut team that had one of the worst defenses in the league last season. But with coaching and player changes, we don’t know what to expect from the new-look Sun.

Stewart finished under this total in 19 of 34 games last season. She has finished under it in five of her nine season openers and in two of three since joining New York.

Washington Mystics vs. Toronto Tempo Prediction

  • Sonia Citron, OVER 15.5 Points at -125 at FanDuel

When the front office traded away Brittney Sykes during the season, it was essentially telling then-rookie Sonia Citron that it was her team to step up and lead. Heading into her sophomore season, she is going to get the chance to do just that from the get-go.

She averaged 14.9 points per game last season, but had a stretch after the Sykes trade where she went over this total in eight of ten games.  I would not expect the defense for an expansion team to be too tough in its first regular-season game.

  • Marina Mabrey, Under 22.5 Pts + Reb + Ast -104 at FanDuel

Mabrey averaged 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4 assists per game last season for a dreadful Connecticut Sun team, going over this total in 17 of 35 games. Washington was not a great defensive team last season, but they have a young core that has played together.

Mabrey is one of the better players on her team, but it’s an expansion team. I wouldn’t count on the Tempo’s offense to have much, well, tempo. It is going to be tough for Mabrey to generate stats tonight. She may score some points, but don’t expect too many rebounds or assists.

Golden State Valkyries vs. Seattle Storm Prediction

  • Flau'jae Johnson, Over 10.5 Points at -130 at FanDuel

Johnson went from being on a promising Golden State to being traded to the rebuilding Seattle Storm on Draft Night. Expectations for the Storm are low this season, but after losing its top five scorers from 2025 in the offseason, there is a scoring vacuum that needs to be filled.

Johnson will probably be given a chance early on to do just that.

Golden State’s defense will make it tough on her, but this is a pretty low total for a scoring threat with her potential. She scored 12 in her preseason debut vs. Golden State (April 25) and 20 vs. Portland a few days later (April 29).

  • Dominique Malonga,  Over 14.5 Points at +100 at FanDuel

Last season’s No. 2 pick in the Draft did not factor much into her rookie season, averaging 14.3 minutes per game and 7.7 points. But with the roster suffering heavy losses in the offseason and a couple of injuries, the team will likely need to lean on her for scoring tonight.

She scored 10 in 21 minutes in preseason action against Golden State. If she can play for 30+ minutes, she’ll go over this total. It’s a risky play, but it has value at +100.
