Spain continues its quest for World Cup glory against Austria in the first knockout round.
Remarkably, the winners of the World Cup in 2006 (Italy), Spain (2010) and Germany (2014) have all failed to win a knockout tie on soccer’s biggest stage since they last lifted the trophy. Italy is absent again this summer and Germany was eliminated by Paraguay earlier this week, so it is down to Spain to try and break that sequence today.
La Roja was knocked out in the group phase in 2014, before bowing out in the round of 16 in 2018 and 2022. It is widely expected to get the job done against Austria, though. Luis de la Fuente’s team was far from perfect in the group stage, not least in that unexpected 0-0 tie with Cape Verde.
However, it demolished Saudi Arabia 4-0 after that stalemate first up, before beating Uruguay 1-0 in a game it never looked like losing. Spain is one of only two teams yet to concede at this World Cup, the other being Mexico. It is solid at the back, both because it defends well and because it dominates possession, thus keeping the ball away from its goal.
Austria lacks creativity, so this is a tough task for Ralf Rangnick’s men. Tip under 0.5 goals for Austria at $0.55 with Kalshi.

We now take a look at the soccer player props odds, with the anytime goalscorer market worth looking at for Spain vs Austria. While the likes of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior all hit the ground running in the group stage, we have not yet seen the best of Lamine Yamal in North America.
That is primarily because Yamal arrived at the tournament some way short of full fitness. He was only available as a second-half substitute against Cape Verde, and although he subsequently scored in the defeat of Saudi Arabia, Yamal was relatively quiet against Uruguay last time out.
However, the Barcelona man has had a few more days to get up to speed and that makes him dangerous in the knockout phase. In fact, that injury may do Yamal good in the long term, having allowed him more rest in the build-up to the competition. Austria will certainly have its hands full in trying to keep him quiet.
Yamal is an extraordinary talent at just 18 years of age, and we expect him to deliver in the round of 32. Choose Yamal to score any time, which can be bought for a price of $0.40 on Kalshi.

Portugal faces Croatia in an all-European tie in the round of 32 at World Cup 2026.
It is fair to say Portugal did not have everything its own way in the group stage. It was frustrated by DR Congo in its first game of the summer, tying 1-1 on that occasion. A 5-1 thrashing of Uzbekistan followed, but Portugal was second best in a 0-0 stalemate with Colombia in its most recent game. There is plenty of work for Roberto Martinez’s men to do.
Croatia advanced from its group in second place. It lost 4-2 to England first up, before beating Panama (1-0) and Ghana (2-1) to reach the round of 32. Runner-up in 2018 and third-place finisher in 2022, Croatia should never be written off. It has a knack for negotiating World Cup knockout ties one way or another.
Portugal’s attack has not been great so far. Cristiano Ronaldo, now 41, has been more of a help than a hindrance. He scored twice against Uzbekistan, but that was against one of the weakest sides in the tournament. Portugal has scored in five of its last six matches and will probably do so again today, but keeping Croatia out will be tricky.
The next pick from our daily World Cup team props is both teams to score when Portugal faces Croatia, priced at $0.51 on Kalshi.

Switzerland and Algeria are about to go head-to-head for a place in the round of 16.
Of the first four ties in the round of 32, three featured under 2.5 goals. The exception was Brazil 2-1 Japan, where the third strike was scored in second-half stoppage time. The pattern so far has been tight, cagey encounters with neither team giving much away. We envisage something similar for Switzerland vs Algeria.
Switzerland is a well-coached, cohesive team that will fancy its chances of reaching the last 16 at least. It picked up seven points in the group stage and was only really denied nine by its wasteful finishing in a 1-1 tie with Qatar.
But now we are into the knockout rounds, Switzerland is set to adopt a more cautious approach. It will still be proactive and look to dominate possession, but it will not take many risks. Algeria will be similarly careful now we are in the do-or-die stage of the tournament. In the knockout phase of the last Africa Cup of Nations, none of its matches contained three goals or more.
Round off your World Cup props bets for today by selecting under 2.5 goals at $0.57 with Kalshi.
