• Place bets let you back a golfer to finish inside a set range - typically a Top 5, Top 10, or Top 20 - instead of winning outright. This is where golf departs furthest from other sports: identifying the lone winner is genuinely hard across a field that size, so backing someone to simply finish well is a massive, independent market. Crucially, bettors must be aware of "dead heat" rules here; if your golfer ties with several others for the final spots in that range, your original stake or odds will be proportionally reduced by the sportsbook.

• Each-way betting bundles both approaches, acting as two separate wagers of equal cost: half the stake goes on the win, and half on the place. Because it is two bets, a $10 each-way wager will actually cost you $20 total. It remains incredibly popular because the place portion pays out at a fraction of the outright odds (often 1/4 or 1/5). The Cut, and Why It Changes Everything

Most tournaments cut the field roughly in half after 36 holes, only the top scorers (and ties) play the weekend.
