DraftKings is preparing to dive into the tumultuous world of US politics.
The operator has announced its new DraftKings PAC, making it one of the first online operators to create one. While the company has made considerable donations to political groups in the past, the PAC will allow them even more freedom to do so.
Las Vegas operators like Caesars and BetMGM have well-established corporate PACs, while PrizePicks started its own in 2023.
DraftKings is already a part of a PAC through the American Gaming Association. This has helped support the industry as a whole, but it appears the industry leader is prioritizing its own goals ahead of the 2026 midterms.
The launch of the new PAC comes as DraftKings Sportsbook has been facing increased pressure from lawmakers across the US. Some have called for an antitrust investigation to be opened into the operators, as well as their top rival, FanDuel. The duo has dominated the market share in the US, leading to many smaller operators being forced to close up shop.
The PAC will also likely focus on fighting state tax increases for online sportsbooks. DraftKings has been battling a new “per bet” tax in Illinois, which will tax every single wager a sportsbook accepts.
Now, they can better afford to support gambling-friendly politicians to lobby against the industry’s most prominent opponents.
We’ll see how the DraftKings PAC fairs soon, with the 2026 midterm elections just over a year away.
DraftKings has thrived in the US sports betting market, but it appears things could soon be changing.
One significant potential change is the expansion of sports prediction markets. These controversial platforms are fighting with states, which want them to exit their market for offering an illegal form of sports betting. While legal battles are continuing to play out, it seems the CFTC will have the final word. With the nominee to lead the department a strong supporter of sports prediction markets, it seems likely the industry will expand in 2025.
DraftKings and FanDuel have both been rumored to be looking at launching prediction platforms of their own. The new DraftKings PAC can help support that and ensure the operator’s sports betting dominance can carry over to the industry.
