Bet on Academy Awards, Here!

Typically, at the beginning of each year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) presents the Academy Awards ceremony where the best films, actors, directors, and more receive the prestigious Oscar award for their outstanding work.

In June of 2020, however, the Academy announced that it would be postponing the ceremony from its originally scheduled date of February 28, 2021, to April 25 “due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cinema, thereby extending the eligibility period for feature films through to February 28, 2021.”

The nominees were officially announced in the middle of March, and now we have until the 25th of April to place bets on which of these nominees will be winners, and to help with that we present our predictions, odds and picks for the upcoming 93rd Academy Awards.

Good luck!

Favorites to Win

It’s a slow-paced, downer of a story, but the favorite to win here is Nomadland starting Frances McDormand, a beautifully filmed drama that captures the restlessness left in the wake of the Great Recession.

Next in line to win this category is The Trial of the Chicago 7, an actor’s showcase starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Keaton that covers the 1969 court case where the federal government charged seven protestors who participated the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago with conspiracy.

No Chance to Win

The Father is the longshot in this category, the “devastatingly empathetic portrayal of dementia” starring Sir Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman that explores the relationship between father and daughter during a heart-breaking time of their lives.

Our Pick:

Nomadland -670

Favorites to Win

In the favorite documentary to win, My Octopus Teacher takes us on a fun underwater journey with a diver to a kelp forest off the coast of South Africa to experience the unique world of an octopus.

The other close favorite to win this category is Time, a gritty look at the American Justice System chronicling Sibil Fox Richardson’s refusal to quit fighting for the release of her husband, Rob, who is serving a 60-year prison sentence for armed bank robbery.

No Chance to Win

In The Mole Agent, audiences get to experience the charming story of a ‘spy’ in a nursing home, but this documentary is really a treatise on how the elderly are treated (and sometimes mistreated) nowadays.

Our Pick:

Time -250

Mads Mikkelsen stars in this entertaining film as a Copenhagen high-school teacher who gets the idea that day drinking might sharpen his faculties and the results are often hilarious at the surface but dark underneath.

Quo Vadis, Aida? is a gripping war drama that focuses on a genocide-fueled conflict in Serbia and many of the cruelties and devastations that result, all told through the story of a woman named Aida who is a U.N. translator in the small town of Srebrenica.

No Chance to Win

A cautionary tale about the fine line between art and commerce, The Man Who Sold His Skin is a quirky satire that has received mixed reviews and is the longshot here.

Quo Vadis, Aida? +550

Soul takes us on a soul’s afterlife adventure, this animated masterpiece by Pixar uses jazz and metaphysics to explore the themes of life and death, the clear favorite in this category according to the odds makers.

Wolfwalkers is a Celtic-inspired adventure that features ancient traditions, profound philosophies and excellent voice work while offering viewers a true visual “feast for the eyes.”

No Chance to Win

Based on the television series Shaun the Sheep, Farmageddon is a family film that the kids will love, charming and sly as usual, though some critics feel it does not quite measure up to its predecessor.

Our Pick:

Soul -5000
