Oscar Predictions, Odds & Favorites to Win 2021

• Nomadland starring Frances McDormand is the clear favorite to win Best Picture
• The biggest favorite here is the animated feature Soul, yet another Pixar masterpiece
• The Man Who Sold His Skin is the longshot to win Best Documentary

Typically, at the beginning of each year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) presents the Academy Awards ceremony where the best films, actors, directors, and more receive the prestigious Oscar award for their outstanding work.

In June of 2020, however, the Academy announced that it would be postponing the ceremony from its originally scheduled date of February 28, 2021, to April 25 “due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cinema, thereby extending the eligibility period for feature films through to February 28, 2021.”

The nominees were officially announced in the middle of March, and now we have until the 25th of April to place bets on which of these nominees will be winners, and to help with that we present our predictions, odds and picks for the upcoming 93rd Academy Awards.

Favorites to Win

It’s a slow-paced, downer of a story, but the favorite to win here is Nomadland starting Frances McDormand, a beautifully filmed drama that captures the restlessness left in the wake of the Great Recession.

Next in line to win this category is The Trial of the Chicago 7, an actor’s showcase starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Keaton that covers the 1969 court case where the federal government charged seven protestors who participated the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago with conspiracy.

The Father is the longshot in this category, the “devastatingly empathetic portrayal of dementia” starring Sir Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman that explores the relationship between father and daughter during a heart-breaking time of their lives.

The other close favorite to win this category is Time, a gritty look at the American Justice System chronicling Sibil Fox Richardson’s refusal to quit fighting for the release of her husband, Rob, who is serving a 60-year prison sentence for armed bank robbery.
