Club Puebla vs Club Leon Prediction

Club Puebla vs Club Leon Prediction

Leon will look to clinch all three points against an underperforming opponent away from home to clinch all three points. In their last fixture, Leon salvaged a point against Pumas UNAM at home playing out a 1-1 draw.

Osvaldo Rodriguez (59’) scored the equalizer for Leon after Gabriel Fernandez (44’) put the visitors in front. Leon controlled most of the possession and had more shots on target but failed to find the winner.

Puebla will have their task cut out in the upcoming match after clinching all three points against Toluca in the last fixture. Thanks to the spot kick from Guillermo Ayala (78’), Puebla managed to clinch a slender 1-0 win in the away clash.

Considering all aspects and recent form, Club Leon are the firm favorites to win this encounter against Club Puebla.

Previous Meetings

Club Puebla and Club Leon have faced off 24 times in Liga MX since their first meeting in September 2012. It has been a lopsided rivalry as Leon has clinched 11 wins while Puebla have won nine, whereas five fixtures ended in a draw.

In the previous meeting, both clubs faced off in a Liga MX Clausura contest in February. Hosts Leon displayed all-round brilliance as they controlled the possession and created more chances to blank Puebla 2-0.

Lucas Di Yorio (46’) opened the scoring for the hosts, while Ayala restored parity for the visitors in the 81st minute. However, Leon restored their advantage in no time through Paul Bellon (82’) to seal the match.

Puebla will look to improve their record at home as they have registered two wins, two losses, and a draw in their last five fixtures. Meanwhile, Leon have looked lackluster away from home, recording two draws, as many losses, and one win.

Puebla Eager to Extend Unbeaten Run

Hosts Puebla will be eager to extend their unbeaten run and break into the top ten spots of the 2023 Apertura season. However, it will be a mountainous task for the club.

Puebla dodged defeats in their last two matches after registering a 1-1 draw against Pachuca, followed by a shock 1-0 win over Toluca. The hosts can leapfrog Juarez momentarily to take the 10th spot with a win in their upcoming match.

Midfielder Nearing Return to Club

The hosts will continue to miss out on the services of Facundo Waller. The attacking midfielder sustained a muscle injury in the last week of September and has been sidelined since then.

Waller has featured in four matches for Puebla in the ongoing season and has played as a right winger and left back. He is expected to recover from the injury and will be available for full selection by the second week of November.

Martinez-Angulo Key for Hosts

Puebla will bank on their talismanic center forward Guillermo Martinez and left back Brayan Angulo to produce moments of brilliance and clinch the match.

Martinez has netted six goals and one assist in 14 appearances, while Angulo has netted twice and assisted five times in 15 matches.

Club Leon Desperate to Improve Away Record

Leon have won only once in seven attempts away from home in the current Apertura season and will be eager to improve their record.

The visitors started the league with a 0-1 loss to Tigres UANL before being thrashed 0-3 by San Luis. However, they managed to salvage a point against Club America with a 1-1 draw but were later blanked 0-2 by Guadalajara.

Their winless run away from home moved up to five with their 1-1 draw against Queretaro. However, the club registered their first away win in the sixth attempt by clinching a 2-0 win over Santos Laguna. Last week, Leon registered a draw against Atlas and lost to Cruz Azul.

Defender-Duo Doubtful for Away Clash

Center-back Jaine Barreiro and left-back Pedro Hernandez will be doubtful for the upcoming match.

Barreiro, who has netted once and assisted one in seven appearances, picked up an injury in September, while Hernandez has been sidelined since August. However, the duo are expected to make a return this week.

Visitors Have Problem of Plenty

The visiting Leon side have a problem of plenty in front of goals as center forwards Federico Vinas, Jose Alvarado, Nicolas Lopez, and midfielder Angel Mena have scored most of the goals for their side.

Vinas has struck thrice and is the leading goal scorer for the club, while Mena, Alvarado, and Lopez have netted twice each.
